Never heard that before, im assuming its a smallish area given the proximity of some tracks to others. Any idea how long the BSPA licences last? Wondering if there was any merit in waiting for it to expire then attempting to place a new club in an existing venue?

Wondering if there was any merit in waiting for it to expire then attempting to place a new club in an existing venue? That’s the point - it doesn’t expire. For example, you get a license to promote speedway at Poole Speedway - that stops anyone else doing the same - and devaluing your product. If anyone wants to promote in Coventry then Mick Horton currently has the license - unless someone buys it off him - following the BSPA rules.
arnieg
Usually it is quoted as a 30 mile area of exclusivity ( there are some obvious historical exceptions). So for example I believe attempts by a Norwich based group to introduce speedway at Swaffham were torpedoed by an objection from King's Lynn. The licence will expire after the track stops operating ( So for example David Hemsley at Leicester acquired a new licence off the BSPA rather than buy an existing one.) Not sure there is a fixed period but three years seems about typical. Licences can also be transferred, so for example Newcastle's licence moved to Reading in 1971 and Reading's to a new venue at Sunderland [yes I know they ran in 64].

We have Poole , Somerset (looking to leave Premiership) Rye House (have track for rental) Swindon (no track in 2019) Lakeside (team no track), Peterborough, Redcar, Workington (team no track) Midenhall, and possibly Eastbourne (?) "Eastbourne?" ! I note the question mark, but where did you get that from?

If that were to be the case then the relevant documentation associated with the granting of appropriate planning permissions will be available in the public domain should anyone wish to check with the local authority and provide validity to the rumour. "rumoured" being the operative term. Any factual evidence ?
