So what would have happened if with two heats to go the result of the tie had not been decided?

I am just glad my lasting memory of the Hammers was actually at Lakeside and not this farce which has replaced it.

Golden heats and possibly up to 3 more heats.

I and others around me were all clearly dissapointed with the way the second match was concluded, this curfew clearly didn’t exist two weeks ago.

The early curtailment last night for me was a surprise and the reasons given obvious nonsense, bearing in mind the previous week went beyond that apparently, although I was not there. At the time, I was not too fussed; I had seen 28 heats and I was COLD, VERY COLD! On reflection though, I agree it sets a bad precedent. The contest was beyond Hammers, but there were points to be won and money to be earned by riders, so maybe that was the reason.

However, the worst thing for me about last night was the quality of racing, or rather lack of it. Opposing supporters loved to slaughter Arena for its lack of racing, what any of them would have made of last night I really have no idea. In 28 heats there was little passing all night, FTG was the order of the day. There were a couple of exceptions, but with the riders on display I would have expected much more. This was my first home meeting away from Arena, and I cannot recall a worse meeting than this at our old home. If The Hammers are to continue at Rye next season and this is the type of fare offered, then I will pass, thank you very much.

Re this afternoon, it disappoints me that Hammers have gone down this route, however, it is within the rules, and it is a rulebook that has been manipulated many times by many others over the years. Does anyone else see it changing ?

Peterborough are past masters of doing much the same. I can remember many, many occasions when either one or both of the Drymls were 'missing' for meetings at Arena and high scoring track specialists were brought in as guests. In speedway, it is do unto others as they would do unto you.

Rye has been awful for a couple of years now, since the track was altered when Len left. I'd be suprised if the Lakeside promotion ran there next season.

If they wish to keep going, then they have little choice - maybe they can get the track shape altered (again) over the winter.

...or re-introduce the adverse camber on bend two.

Is there anyone going to this meeting who would be able to text updates to the Updates site? If so, could you please send me a private message which includes your mobile phone number.

Thanks

Are Thomas Jorgensen and Carl Wilkinson the best guests available for Scott Nicholls and Tom Bacon?  The same with Aarnio last night we don't have a number 1.

I would assume the simple answer is yes. I doubt the management team would go out of their way to pick riders who they don’t think are the best available replacements.....

As you will notice I am not usually one to comment on this forum but in this instance I feel I must defend Rye House. In the current setup they purely rent their track and stadium to Lakeside. All track preparation and running is by Lakesides promotion so any blame for a poor product should be directed at them,as far as I am aware their were only two members of Rye House track staff assisting to run this meeting and they both done it for the good of the sport ( unpaid). I was informed prior to the meeting a 10.30 curfew was in place,so we were lucky to achieve the result as it was nearer 10.45 when the result was declared.Personally I am happy to witness any racing at Rye House but feel the Lakeside promotion need to improve their public relations or they will be running in an empty stadium.

A team bends rules to give them an advantage.... so what's the issue? Been happening for years and will continue to do so if the "rulebook" allows it. Whilst there are Lemmings that continue to pay to watch this "sport" it will not change anything. The "Promoters" don't care about each other... as long as they are not the ones taking the hit.

More of a jokesport everyday....

Promoters and lemmings , speedways biggest problems.

Why was the 10.30 'curfew' not in place two weeks ago. As for the track preparation, it has not changed in the best part of three seasons, regardless of who's been running the show at Rye.

Fully agree, I dare say a few quid was saved owing to the newly installed “curfew” which funnily enough didn’t affect the go karts next door, funny that.

The racing was usual Rye gate and go, a few overtakes but they were few and far between, as for Jon Cook taking advantage of the rules is it a big surprise err no. And no to the last question as well despite the ongoing problems within the sport.

I have been going to Rye since the mid 70’s and last night was typical Rye gate and go and it’s always been the same. Their was some shale on the outer third of the circuit but anyone trapping and immediately riding wide wasn’t passed all night. And to be fair it’s been like that for decades.

Whose wonderful idea was it to install a motor cross circuit on the centre green which causes visibility problems for all Supporters at ground level.

I agree with most of that, but not all. Public relations has never been Lakesides strong point. The fact that most clubs are the same doesn’t excuse poor communication.

There is not a lot that can be done about track prep in a short space of time, especially at this late stage of the season. Hopefully we will see some improvement by next season but by the nature of the track it is never going to be among the best. It is basically a stock car track converted to speedway by Len Silver.  The amount of money Len ploughed in to buying the stadium and converting it to speedway would be close on a million quid in today’s money and there is obviously a limit to how much can be put into a stadium,  so unfortunately it is either Rye House or no Speedway in the area. If Rye House is lost that is yet another nail in the coffin of the sport. That’s not an attempt to justify the racing it is just the reality of the sport today.

As for track staff there are a number that worked for both Lakeside and Rye House, but in the last meeting there was something of a breakdown in getting information on rider changes to the referee , and one Rye House official in particular was criticised by the ref, so there are likely to be certain changes by next term.
