Ray Wilson once appeared on a game show (can't remember the name) whereby the panal had to guess the occupation of the person. If I recall Ray mimed the action of changing a tyre?

As did Andy Smith, who mimed the hand action of asking the ref to flash the green light. (What's My Line)

Phil Morris did a similar thing once on a show hosted by Donny Osmond.

So did Graham Drury, when he was a promoter.

Recall the name of the prgramme now..."What's My Line?"

Seems that WML had several speedway related guests. I can remember Graham Drury on, what I assume was, a later edition. Emlyn Hughes was a panelist and it was a female presenter (still racking my brain to recall who) who said he would be impressed as Drury was a sportsman. Ā DruryĀ declared he was an ice speedway riderĀ , turning on his fuel tap before the start of his first race. Hughes later presented a sports show featuring "real" ice speedway from Italy and seemingly knew far more about the sport then; aka had a good researcher feeding him the info.Ā

Johnny Marr is a Belle Vue fan. Morrisey even wrote a song about him and called it "Speedway".

Yes - being taken to Belle Vue is mentioned in his autobiography. The Smiths song 'Rusholme Ruffians' also includes theĀ lineĀ 'the grease in the hair of a speedway operator'.

Would imagine there would have been a fair few 'celebs' who went to speedway in the 60s and 70s though, but theĀ sport is hardly overwhelming patronised by the rich andĀ famous these days.Ā

Phil Morris won Ā£63,000 on the ITV quiz show 'The Colour of Money' back in 2009 and a further Ā£25,000 on Sky's quiz show 'Are You Smarter ThanĀ  A 10' Year Old' here is a link to a page in relation to it.

I would suggest quizzes as a solution to the Chris Harris funding gap but by his own admission he isnt smarter than a 10 year oldĀ ;)

Everyone who attends Berwick meetings is a celebrity, atĀ least in their own minds anyway.

Actually Screm, Ā Berwick do have a celebrity fan, Iā€™ve seen him there. Guy by the name of Neil Oliver. Ollies goal was never offside in the 97 Scottish Cup Final!

(ask any Falkirk fan lol)

I have an old Hawkwind tour programme in the loft somewhere, in which their bass player, Harvey Bainbridge, confessed to going to "lotsa speedway meetings" in the time since the last tour, back in the early 1980's.

Hawkwind bass player Alan Davey (1984-1996, 2000-2007) was a regular at Foxhall when he was living in Suffolk...

Neil used to work as an electrician with my brotherĀ a few years ago, while I worked with Neil`s dad Ian, in fact Ian is still kit man with Berwick Rangers.

Had a lot of time for Neil, he was a good guy - it was a good bunch of players we had at the time. I was heavily involved at the club at the time, happy days strangely even though we were in major financial strife at the time. Heā€™s still well thought of by my generation at Falkirk.

His goal really wasnā€™t offside though!

Les Grey of Mud was a Hackney Hawks fan.Ā  Apparently they also played under the group name of 'Speedway' after Mud faded from popularity.

Ray Stiles (on the left of the picture) was a Wimbledon fan. I knew him a bit as we both supported the same football club and he was always asking about the speedway.

Recently saw an interview with Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham he was wearing a speedway hoodie, couldn't fully make out the design but it had 'Speedway' or 'Vintage Speedway' with the picture of a rider on the front....

As a boy from 'The States', I'm a HUGE Scott Gorham fan. I'll reach out and see if I can find any further information. ;)
