Not someone I would have signed but he will either be a hero (like Harris last year) or a dud (like T Lahti) but probably the best available around with the potential to be better than his average suggests.  We will see...

Agree, and incidentally Ljung is older than both Lindgren and Lindbäck, and hasn’t been as successful as an individual in gps etc.

Expand

Yes true, Ljung seems to be able to pull out decent races at World level without ever really looking like a world class rider. And yes fair point he around before both named Swedes.

That score would have been the very last thing the Swindon promotion wanted or needed. A crippler for them.

All we need is a bit of the Poole supporting mentality, you know, when the 4k Play Off supporting 'Santas' turn up for their annual visit for the Home Leg of the PO Final.

The likes of Nilsson, Berntzon, Thorssell have also all represented their country in GPs and WTC since 2014 and Thorssell is current Swedish Champion. All are achieving better in Sweden these days so are comfortably ahead of him these days.

The Swedes haven’t produced anyone of suitable class on the big stage since Lindgren and Lindback, with only Ljung a possible candidate.

Sweden are in a worse state than GB for producing the next generation.

Ljung is 3 years older than Lindgren & Lindback!

Nilsson & Berntzon represented Sweden in the Speedway World Cup of 2014 when they failed to make the final.  Hardly a CV enhancing performance that.  I can't think that Thorsell has represented Sweden at any Speedway World Cup.

I'm certain if you look back at Elitserien & Ekstraliga stats for Jonasson he compares well to Thorsell, Berntzon & Nilsson over the course of his career.

Already stated that Ljung is older.

We aren’t ‘looking over his career’ we are looking at what he has to offer now.

I think we can all agree that Sweden haven’t produced any World class riders since Freddie and Antonio, which I think was the point we were discussing.

Happens at every track! Rosco was complaining about Swindon's crowd level a couple of weeks ago!

I think Andreas Jonsson would likely disagree!!?

Chrikey, we are scraping the barrel here. Mikael Max was a GP rider when Lindback & Lindgren started riding in the UK.

Lindgren & Lindback were both born in 1985 I think. Is there a Swedish rider born 86 or later who has had a better career than Jonasson? I don't believe so.

We are talking of world class riders since Fred and Tonio. We all know PK, AJ, even Mikael Max were still considered class whilst those boys were around. THJ I don’t think has ever been classed as world class, if so it’s false labelling.

THJ has ridden several seasons now in reserve, I don’t even think he rides in Poland anymore.

Best of a bad bunch of the rest?? Maybe, maybe not. Berntzon has gone under the radar a lot, and wish he had come to Wolves when it looked possible 3 or 4 seasons ago.

Berntzon is holding down a 1st team place in Sweden and rides in Poland too. I don’t think there is much in it personally. THJ has never reached World stage status.

Poole have had many highly acclaimed next big things according to forum posters. Let's hope THJ is better than Karol Baran. It'll make the playoffs more interesting, else Swindon will win in second gear.

Apart from 2017 PO semi final when they shot the final of One Man and His Dog at Wimborne Road.

THJ in his peak performed a lot better than anything Berntzon or Nilsson etc has managed in Poland and Sweden.

even if you look at his GP results from 2015 - he may not of made a semi final but had plenty of 6 and 7’s which isnt too bad, and beat plenty of top riders along the way.

so what Col is saying is right - since Lindgren and Lindback , THJ is the best that Sweden have produced.
