Tani has to get some results and I can't see why he couldn't be in the top6.

Isoaho did well last year in the Kauhajoki meeting, all others are first timers without practise on a frozen SPEEDWAY track. Looking forward to a few harmless wobbles in the first set of heats.

EDIT: added word harmless

Any predictions? Both look realy tough.

Sweden: M.Haarahiltunen, N.Svensson, F.Zorn, H.Weber, N.Toloknov, D.Valeev, A.Shishegov... maybe G.Bauer?

Finland: O.Ledstrom, S.Svensson, D.Ivanov, D.Khomitsevich look certain... then S.Pletschacher, M.Niedermaier, T.Busch, J.Iwema, C.Ebner?

'No Mates' Bauer may well get the permanent wild card if he doesnt qualify, however I'd like to see Busch Iwema and Ebner go through. My head says the more experienced riders will go through. Surpised to see how few 'regulars' are in the qualifiers, and it does seem odd not to have a Klatovsky riding.

I know Jesper will be doing live updates from Finland, but are there any updates from Sweden?

Conkers, I see you refer to Bauer as " no mates" and I heard the commentator for FIM TV say in coverage last year that him and Weber have a frosty relationship. What's the issue with him?

It started a few years ago, when Bauer claimed he was better than all the other German riders, who were were rubbish in his opinion. He has had fall outs with all the German riders, and myself, Iris 123 and a couple others jokingly refered to him as Gunther No Mates. Then I was in Sanok for the Team Final a few years ago, when Bauer sat apart from the other Germans with his back to them, and the joke stuck.

If you can find it on YouTube, at Inzell in 2015, Weber was leading Bauer, and when they came into the second turn Bauer deliberately barged Weber taking him out. I have a sequence of the crash and in one pic, Webers wheels are clear of the ice. (If you have a look on my Instagram - I put it on there, there is a link below) The two don't even stand next to each other on the parades such is their dislike of each other.

Bauer though is very popular and puts bums on seats, and I'm sure if he put the effort in with the others and settled his differences, then the Germans could be a force again.

Thanks Conkers, it's just lucky his boy rides under the Italian flag then!!

There is a reason for that as well. His father demanded that his son should get a spot in the World Championship and European Championship ahead of any other German riders, but the DMSB did not grant him his wish. Therefore Bayuer sr. said that his son from now on would ride with an Italian racing license, which would get him what he wants.

That is pretty arrogant indeed, especially when results clearly show Luca would not be competitive in world championship racing.

I have to say personally though that G Bauer was happy to pose for a picture and sign a postcard for my 3 year old last year in the pits at Inzell so fair play for that

Thanks for posting the results, Jesper, as I've been snapping footy today, and getting cold and wet in the process!

OK, so how does Gunther Bauer get a reserve slot when he didn't even compete in the qualifying round? Is it a case of who you know?

I think part of it was also Bauer snr said Luca went to Russia for the previous Euro championships when nobody else wanted to and so should be looked upon favourably .

The rift though grew a few years back at the Team final when he slagged off his fellow Germans and said something along the lines of,i would be better riding on my own!!
