Nothing to do with the BSPA. Messrs Gordon and Morton knew there was a problem with  bends 3/4. SCB manager Graham Reeve i understand had to rush to Manchester on the night before the meeting because of the seriousness of the problem.

After successful testing Gordon and Morton believed that  the problem had been solved. As explained, it was the drop in temperature on the Saturday that caused the moisture to rise and caused the problem to reappear. If the temperature hadn't dropped the meeting would have gone ahead and the problem would not have reappeared until the next time the weather changed in that specific way. The undisputable fact is that the SCB passed the track fit for racing and the referee was happy for the meeting to go ahead on the night.  If Reeve rushed to Manchester because of the rumours he had heard I very much doubt that his inspection would have been anything other than extremely thorough. It would be illogical for him to do anything less having made a special journey to investigate the matter. The truth is that the problem caused by the contractors, which had supposedly been repaired, was hidden until the weather changed.

I have said more than I intended because of the comments made by others but this issue has been discussed at great length a number of times. There is nothing new to add to the arguments and those who choose to believe that Gordon and Morton were at fault are not going to be convinced and vice versa for those on the other side. It is pointless to continue  unless there is something new to add.

To get back on topic, Swindon are doing the right thing in cancelling the meeting if they believe that the track they are themselves constructing is not going to be ready for tomorrow.

For every instance where the neigh sayers turn out to be correct about something going wrong there’s at least another two, three or four where things were fine, it’s just people like to be negative on social media.

Its funny how in ALL those cases when it’s fine they keep their heads down yet on the few occasions it goes their way, you can’t shut them up.

Tools.

There was no  successful testing and Gordon and Morton did not believed that the problem had been solved ...you  only have to look at what happened about the hose pipe to understand how  honest they are ..it's no wonder they were kick out of the sport in the end .

so who gives the licence to operate then ???????????????????????????????????????

You obviously know nothing about British Speedway. It’s the Speedway control bureau(SCB for short). I suggest you visit their website and learn something about what they do. For anyone to suggest that all they do is rubber stamp willy nilly also knows nothing.

Believe it not they were skint and desperately needed that meeting on at all costs !!!!!

They were skint there is no doubt, but to suggest they would go ahead at any cost is quite a ridiculous comment to make, especially coming from such a seasoned poster on these boards.

I can go into some detail that would categorically prove that statement wrong but it's not the place, and it's been done already a million times.

They were kicked out because a certain individual in the Norfolk area wanted his paws on the whole project.

I'm not naming names, but I'm sure you are clever enough to figure it out.

It ended with the greatest speedway track on planet earth.

I've seen the business plan, and it's no different to the one currently in operation. The club are running at a loss, like every other track in the United Kingdom.

They failed to pay the rent because the rent was extortionate.

What they did was get themselves into an absolute mess trying to build one of the greatest tracks we will ever see and save the most iconic, and the most historic speedway team in this sport. They made some poor choices mostly through lack of knowledge but there intentions were always clear, and always well intended.

They've been vilified, and burned with their names painted by people very much like yourself who know absolutely nothing about the situation. With greatest respect to you, you are not qualified to hold such an opinion.

Whilst all this was going on a certain little someone was laughing away in the background after orchestrating the entire thing, trying to get his grubby mitts on it.

Absolutely appaling.

Hmmm!  Anyone who starts a sentence “with greatest respect” usually means the opposite.  Also, you don’t need any qualifications to hold an opinion and no matter how much you disagree, they are entitled to their opinion whether it is based on facts or otherwise.

The last few pages have become boring with the usual Belle Vue excusers trying to dominate the sad events of a few years ago.

Be nice to keep this positive about the future of a venue trying to upgrade its facilities with just the track at the moment a topic of discussion. I’m sure lessons will have been learned by ALL about the way things were handled at the NSS some years ago.

Getting the track right is the only important thing before any fixtures take place.

Has anyone seen anything around town actually advertising the start of the season?

I notice there was over 13,000 at Swindon Town tonight for the England Women's friendly. Just 10% of those coming to the speedway would comfortably double our average crowd.

They might have sold 13k tickets, wasn't 13k in attendance though!

First of all its a good track but it's hardly the best ever ..it's good racing but  hardly any skill is needed so you need to steady down ,I would hardly say taking in gate money and not paying bills  well intended in fact  a lot people would  say it's almost stealing .

Not sure what makes your opinion more valid than the next person and trust me I know plenty about  what went on to quailed to hold such  an opinion ..the bottom line is no matter how you dress it up they  have kick out of the sport because they never paid there bills because there business plan was hopeless .and doomed to fail .

They wouldn't go, if they have to bring their own seat and have to use back straight bogs! Never seen that many at the County Ground for ages. Some fine camera shots of the famous Magic Roundabout.
