Swindon 2019

Am I viewing the revised plan correctly? I'm not that familiar with the site lay-out other than from an occasional visiting fan perspective.

So the new track will effectively be at right angle to the existing one, with the stands etc at the end where the pits currently are and a new acoustic noise barrier around the whole site?!

Or am I looking at it all wrong.

So where is the area for all the speedway equipment then, or the kennels etc.  These plans look to be like many of the others there have been with lack of detail.

And lack of comunication by the sounds of it.

The track is in the same place and position as now but will be shortened by about 15 or 20 mtr which will be taken off the present bend 1 and 2 end.  As you look at the plan the stand and pits is where the present stand is between bend 1 and 4, ie the main straight and the pits will be near bend 1.  To get into the stadium you will come off the same road as now but turn into the where the present pit entrance is, walk or drive past bends 3 and 4 to the entrance into the stadium which will be on its southern side.

Surely it’s bend 3-4 where it’s being shortened , that’s where the houses are

No it's bends 1 & 2 and the pits being moved to turn one as the pits area is already in the boundary set for houses and part of the pits is taped off as out of area.

Common sense would suggest that moving the track away from the housing as much as possible would be the best approach, but no, they are bringing in the first and second bends.

That’s just ridiculous , there are no houses on the 1st and second bend (yet) still not convinced this is happening anyway

The long term plan is that houses will ultimately be built at the first/second bend end, but as you say, this whole stadium redevelopment is pie in the sky so moving the track away from the existing houses might at least buy us a couple more seasons of racing.

Fair point.

The plan shows a 'compound barn' which would surely house equipment and hardware etc?

Which I think would be the case but then where are all the dogs kept or inspected, you cannot have one barn for both, the plans are as questionable as previous ones appeared to be.

I'd rather that than no speedway at Swindon, or anywhere else for that matter. Once a club shuts, it usually stays shut.

Agreed, do not give a toss about the stands or back straight bog or the bloody awful food for sale.

Swindon has never been the same since Peter toogood was in charge. Bring back the characters and premier league racing

Good days, but that league isn't the same now either. Personally glad and grateful to have had the chance to watch the likes of Adams, Zagar, Richardson, Ward, Doyle, Janowski and countless other top notch riders wearing Robins colours since then.

I hated Premier League at Swindon. On the few occasions I went, the crowds were tiny and they had the most irritating way of putting junior race every 4 races, which totally ruined the flow of the meeting.

Good news that the club are finally getting the new track marked out and work started. The current track has produced diabolical racing in recent seasons. A new 300 metre track is needed with the right shape. Hope they don’t do a Leicester and put in something just as bad. Finger crossed.
