BobC
Long before oil catchers on bikes, the oil was dripping from the engines into the track surface. This always helped the shale bind and keep moisture in the surface. Thats where we used to get the infamous 'Castrol R' smell from. Not the engines, but with the shale being moved around. Its nothing new. A few points from last night. Best wishes to Bomber, Ty, and Thomas, hope they are all ok this morning. Proctor gets pulled back for a flyer, quite right, yet Kurtz gets an even bigger flyer, nothing! Really felt for Newman in Ht8. Rode very well indeed, yet some how the referee gives 3rd to MPT on the line.

He's right, it's a disgrace and illegal to contaminate any grounds with oil. His comments are clearly not about the racing on the track but rider's having to use oil catchers. GED Clampitt would be made up.

Not as big as Proctors imo but still warranted all 4 back and a warning issued.

I think one of the Lynn lads hurt his wrist but i think thats ok. Yes it was very nasty, the Lynn rider had no chance of avoiding Bomber.. His bike was knackered so he had to ride his second bike. Two poole fans gave the Benevelant fund £100 if Bomber went up to them and recieved it, of which he did and the two poole fans were over the moon, Bomber didnt rush although he was in the next heat after the interval and stood there and chatted. He even attended the post meeting confrence. But i think he will get up a bit stiff this morning.. We are going to re name him the bouncing Bomber.. Disposing of oil on the track is inappropriate unless it was caused by machinery failure, in which case best efforts should be made to contain the spillage and then clean it up and properly dispose of the contaminated material. On the subject of the “Castrol R” smell, this was created because “old school” engines had total loss oil systems whereby oil was pressure fed into the engine and then burnt within the engine and emitted through the exhaust system. Today’s engines use a a recirculating system and so the oil is not burnt and thus does not cause the “Castrol R” effect in tha same way that it did. In the interests of speedway as a whole, I think it might be wise to stop all discussions relating to oil spillage and let the club carry out an internal investigation. 2

Trackrat
After a meeting with the bspa and little discussion, Matt Fraud has decided he can do what he likes so is now laying a skid pan in the best interests of the sport of course. I would suggest to my real speedway colleagues that they are not drawn by rubbish like this. If the “author” doesn’t get a response, he can’t “feed” off of it and he will simply wither on the vine.

SteveLyric2
So the usual several pages of bs following a Poole trouncing of the opposition. I really can't understand the issue about 'oilgate'. I would go as far as to say that every speedway track in the country has used oil to help bind 'iffy' shale. Even the renouned trackman Buster suggested using it during the infamous 'first bend hole' incident a few seasons ago which caused the KL call off!! With the oil being put on the track after the meeting I guess we'll have to wait to see if Leicester 'ride under protest' at next week's Wimborne Road home meeting?! I can't add anything else about the meeting other than to say that 3 Poole riders set their fastest race times of the season so far. (NB. For those arguing the environmental/H&S issues, last night's meeting was actually sponsored by a Health and Safety Compliance Specialist!!) No issue with the Poole win but I am shocked that you believe there is nothing wrong in polluting the environment with waste oil - that is just totally unacceptable! Win, lose or draw - it’s not going to change my life. However, looking at the league table (which shows points earned and not points expected), I think you’ll find that the pie rats are currently behind the Robins in the table! Suggest you don’t drag the meeting sponsor into this debate unless he has given you the nod to do so. Also don’t confuse Health & Safety with Environment, totally different specialities but, in many cases are intrinsically linked.
