What can be done when a referee is just TOO bad

Recommended Posts

Last night's refereeing performance at the British GP must go down as one of the worst in the history of the SGP.

He had one difficult decision to make all night but still managed to mess up several others that were straightforward.

Live .. these incidents can produce the tensions and shout-out moments that add to the controversy, atmosphere and buzz. As the ref becomes a pantomime villain of sorts, he can become part of the show.

But watching on TV .... Less so. You don't tend to get  that 'extra dimension' you can at the track from such an incompetent in the box. It just irritates the hell out of the viewer and the injustice created festers more.

I was begging for some FIM white coated medics to come along at the interval and escort the poor man back to his facility. Some one needed to help him get out of there for his own good.

NOTHING to do with BSI but FIM not impressed although obviously they won't say so publicly.

Fair enough, never a good sign when the refereeing makes the head lines and last night Mr Froschauer certainly did that.

Is there any likelihood of the FIM Jury stepping in in such cases. If not, surely last night could be used as justification for a new rule allowing it.

Not saying it’s right but looking at it from bsi point of view he was a dream for them, he got the crowd wound up like a pantomime villain and we are still talking about it today, as I said it’s not right as it’s a professional sport but a little bit of crowd interaction is never a bad thing

If necessary yes. Or an appeal procedure to the jury during a meeting, obviously number limited to avoid frivolous appeals.

NOT practical ... would take ages to convene the jury, the time taken would be prohibitive. It is not like the referee doesn't have countless TV replays to help him. But his decision is final.

I don't see why it's not practical. The FIM jury are in Cardiff anyway (unless they've banned jollies), put them in a room with access to TV replays and a phone. Would take no longer than TMO in rugby or VAR in football.

THEY have various other duties during the course of a meeting and are rarely all in one place.

But the referee's decision is still final.

I don`t want to see any decisions taken by committee as that would only confuse things still further IMO, best left to one referee on the night. Those who ask for a football VAR system for the referee, I think we already have that with all the tv replay assistance there is on the night.
