stevebrum Posted July 24, 2018 Report Share Posted July 24, 2018 You only have to look at the last 3 BT meetings at Swindon, Leicester and Wolves. All 3 were dry and dusty or poorly prepared due to lack of suitable shale. It’s a major problem for the sport. However it appears Kings Lynn and Wolves had good racetracks last night due to early preparation. So it can be done. As the track is the stage all tracks should be doing more to get this right. I agree the riders do deserve a track to race on and yes the track at Lynn that night was a disgrace. I agree with everything Troy's says but you cant go walking out of a meetings when the racing is still going on. It has to be enblock. Having noticed last night how close the houses are now to Swindon Stadium, I'm sure the residents would be thrilled to have a water tanker going round the track at 4 O'Clock in the morning. Could well be last season for Robins if it carries on like this. I think you make a really good point there. Those who currently attend speedway are maybe too focused on the racing whereas new people will view it more on the whole package? This is certainly true of other sports - the 'racing' in F1 for example is usually dull, cricket, rugby and football also have really dull matches but people enjoy other aspects such as entertainment in the stadium, seats and covered terracing, decent inside areas for food and drink and to be able to socialise and dip into the action as necessary. Most speedway tracks are run down looking with outdated facilities and a poor environment for this socialising. Everyone says Belle Vue is great but to have to walk around some car parks, with no signs just to be able to get to the stand and then be faced with one overpriced burger van gives a poor spectator environment for casual type fans. The racing can sometimes be boring but if people can enjoy just being there then they will likely come back - equally the racing could be great but with little to do other than stand around in the open air people still get bored and may not bother coming again. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Swindon promotion probably asked them for necessary access. Stadium owners say no dice, guys. We can't have the local residents being disturbed by additional activity, especially at night, and dog racing has priority access outside of your allocated hours anyway. Developers give stadium owners a pat on the back for their help in further discrediting speedway. A number of factors came together to create a perfect storm of problems. We are working hard on the issues and expect to have them resolved by next Monday’s meeting against Wolverhampton. I was gobsmacked by how close the houses were to the stadium and cannot believe that a motorsports stadium can have a future in that location.
