acef
On 6/30/2018 at 11:28 PM, Grachan said: Even without GP riders, you could have a league of reasonable strength. You are proposing a points limit of 35. It seems that your idea of what speedway should be is just a few people gathered in the countryside watching their mates having a skid round. That is fine at grass roots level, but the top league needs to improve its standard. I very rarely go to speedway these days, because, even though I like the Swindon side as I am used to those riders, the opposition never looks appealing. I want to be enthused by speedway. It infuriates me to see people saying it should be driven down to such a low level. It needs to get fans back in. It needs to get people like me back in. Your missing the point entirely. The sport can't operate on the implicated costs your theory would assume. It's struggling as it is with a much lower calibre of rider. It would be financial suicide for pretty much every UK club

I got the best of both leagues on a Friday and Sunday. The nearest, my beloved Hawks ever came to winning the top division and I supported them as a 16 year old from 1970. But your point is yes so many clubs - so many matches with not only League but KO Cup and Individual rider championship's/meetings. Have to say was best time for me between 70 and say early eightees. Blimey, Steve, I’m framing that. Your shortest post ever. Even shorter than your wedding vows when all you were supposed to say was “I do”! Apparently you were still answering on your first anniversary. Lol.

LOL Sorry DC I do tend to get really into this forum thing since i first discovered it 2 years ago. But don't knock it mate. You can hopefully tell I love the sport and am really into some of the stats side as well as being an enthusiastic supporter who likes having open debate with others interested. Not all this bloody back biting that goes on. But I enjoy some of the witty posts. One liners anyone can do incl me but I like the debate element. Remember I am a speedway supporter of many years and one of a dying breed as there is less young talent/supporters joining us. Hopefully the sport will still outlive me but you have to cast some doubts when you see whats going on. Was lucky enough to be able to take early retirement 2 years ago after 46 years in the Shipping biz. (My decision to retire early). Suppose I still partly miss the buzz and hustle/bustle of working life which maybe why i throw myself more into the Forum (specially Poole) even though based in Chelmsford- Essex. Anyway better go as rambling again

Weymouth, was not raced. Yes and the majority of riders in the BL had come through from the NL and become stars. Unfotunutely at this time teams like Cradley threw huge somes of money at their team and got team strengths increased and started the demise. As someone mentioned it didn’t see crowds increase and cost clubs a fortune. Rye House for example lost half their championship winning team when most of their riders moved up. It was a given in those days that riders from the NL would progress but I’m pretty sure the majority still had full time jobs as well as ride speedway. It would be financial suicide for pretty much every UK club That's the point - it IS struggling as it is. No -one is prepared to pay for the GP stars to return ( at £500 to £1,000 a point ) and it can't survive now, as it is. The only way is a lower overall calibre of rider. "Stars" will emerge from that level and you would want to see them race. That is what happens in the NL. Drew Kemp is a superstar at that level. When they get to an even higher level then Poland and Sweden are the places for them to earn a crust.
INCOGNITO
As an EXAMPLE only this is the sort of standard we need to be looking at and charging no more than £12 entrance fee for adults and £25 a family ticket (2/2) BELLE VUE - Craig Cook, Steve Worrall, Dan Bewley, Paul Starke, Damian Drzodz, Kyle Bickley, NL 2.00 BERWICK - Josh Grajczoneck, Kevin Doolan, Aaron Summers, David Howe, N B Jacobsen, Jye Etheridge, NL 2.00 WOLVES - Rory Schlein, Kyle Howarth, Thomas Jorgensen, Luke Becker, Ashley Morris, Nathan Greaves, NL 2.00 With teams of this strength as an example you could run at wages that won't break the bank (see original post) and lower entrance fee to no more than £12. You still have seven riders wearing your club colours and they are not doubling up (NL only) and fans can relate to these riders much more when they are yours and not shared. You get a varied fixture list with a different team visiting each week on your chosen race night. We have a wage bill that is affordable and as original post, the home track pays the set wages for riders from both teams using the attendance money so riders are not owed money and paid on the night they have just earned. We see more places for British youngsters progressing and getting rides and we see just as entertaining races watching Worrall v Howarth or Howe v Becker as you do watching Doyle v Fricke or Thorssell v Bjerre. COST EFFECTIVE - RIDERS PAID - VARIED FIXTURES - YOUR RACE NIGHT - MORE BRITISH RIDERS - WEEKLY MEETINGS - YOUR TEAM

COST EFFECTIVE - RIDERS PAID - VARIED FIXTURES - YOUR RACE NIGHT - MORE BRITISH RIDERS - WEEKLY MEETINGS - YOUR TEAM That Berwick side is as expensive/strong as their current 7 for which they charge £15 (already lower than the norm) and do not make any money Cutting the price to £12 would just reduce the income (and increase losses) by £1500 a meeting - why would they vote for one big league like that? The BV and Wolves sides would have reduced income of £6000+ per meeting and I dont see a reduction in strength in line with that for them either Going by current Championship averages/equivalents those teams (IMO) are about 5 points too strong for the financial elements of your proposal
DC2
You think Thorsell, Masters & Heeps are no better than Jorgensen, Becker & NL 2 pointer? They’re at least 8 points better!

Thorssell 8.5, Masters 8, Heaps 4.5 = 21 Jorgensen 6, Becker 4, NL 2.00 = 12 a reduction of the current team by 9.00 but these are just examples and using PL averages the teams shown are roughly about the same and in the case of Grajczoneck 6.5 at Berwick he and a 2.00 replace Gappmaier 5.0 and Pjipier 3.5 so not much difference than they are now

Even by your example of not much difference Berwick cant make it pay at £15 let alone your suggesed £
East End Fan
How on earth anyone can think that Speedway in this day and age at ANY level could be offered at only a £12 admission. Get real.
ch958
maybe if Newcastle or Worky or whoever aren't turning up every 4 weeks with select teams more fans would come back. Berwick v BelleVue or Wolves might be quite a pull in comparison. Even the return fixtures would be a change from the usual fare. Its all well and good poo - pooing posts but whats the alternative?
