comparing him against other reserves that have an average of over 1.5pts more is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. We’ve come up against a very high averaged reserve in our last few meetings - some over 5 points!

Wasnt my intention to compare Sarjeant with Lambert even though it may read that way. I'll compare him to Tom Bacon as their averages are only 0.3 apart. So, on par with a no scoring rider.

He’s struggling for pace that’s obvious to see

He's struggled for pace pretty much all season. Looking at the fixture list we are half way through the season with the business end still to come.

Sarjeant was the 4.80 reserve in 2015 that Lambert was last night. He is uncomfortable at Ashfield and sticks rigidly to the inside line even when the racing has moved out. I expect him to score better at home and anything away is a bonus, yet scored 4+1 for Ippo on Thursday from the tricky No2 jacket.

Last night Harris was turned over by two 6 point riders in ht7. Averages arent always an indication of the outcome of individual heats.

Our team is top heavy and when our top 2 don’t score double figures with solid backup from the middle order then it puts us under severe pressure.

Agree, though we signed one of the most inconsistent heat leaders in British speedway into a team that is structured to rely on their scoring.

I’m not saying JS is blameless but expecting him to outscore visiting reserves each week is unrealistic against more balanced teams.

Absolutely, so every time a balanced team turns up at Ashfield we will struggle throughout the meeting and be taken to a last heat decider. Its Worky next week with Campton at reserve, so same again?

Doesnt bode well for the rest of the season. Isnt the solution to restructure our team to become more balanced whilst we can. Redcar, PB and Berwick have all strengthened up over the last week and Newcastle's signing remains to be seen. However they are trying to improve rather than just accepting.

Well interesting comments by MD but I really enjoyed last night. I like to win but Id rather have a close meeting than a runaway bore fest and last night was close.

Nichols was classy and hard but could do nothing in Heat15. BWD was spectacular and did well to pip Paul on the line. For us our top 5 all chipped in without any being a stand out although Chris and Richie did what was required in heats 13 and 15. And a word for Jack Thomas who crucially won heat 2 again and with the way the team is set up has the 'harder' rides thereafter.

Hopefully something similar next Friday and we get revenge on Workington and maybe see a few worky fans as they don't seem to want to race at home

I enjoyed last night too , very entertaining meeting which could have went either way .

Was tight throughout and when we got to the business end you couldn' with any confidence pick a winner . Heat 13 was excellent , Harris and Worrall made the start over Nicholls , but exiting bend 2 Nicholls picked up some grip , lifted and went into the side of Worrall . Accidental it might have been , but it got Nicholls into 2nd place and triggered off the red mist in Worrall which contributed to a terrific race and also a bit of afters going back up the ramp to the pits . The same protagonists reappeared for heat 15 with the scores level , but this time the Tigers duo roared from the tapes and made no mistake to score the meeting clinching 5-1 , though Nicholls and Worrall still managed a long and intense looking conversation on the warm down lap . Exciting meeting with a last heat decider , it's why we love it .
