g13webb
Nobody is saying don't have a final, all that has been suggested it to add the final points to those already won in the heats. similar to the format of the SGP's. It would point importance those heats, rather than going through the motions and mean nothing.... The fact Connor never won a single race all night illustrates how bizarre this format is .
geoff100
Well done to lambert on the title but his aftermatch comments "that i made 6 good starts" seems to sum up the present day sport we love !
Normski
Looking at rules Lambert can still ride in this meeting in 2019 as he will be under 21 on January 1st. As to last night there was only going to be one winner he also got the fastest time of the season in his first ride. Pleased to see local lad Luke Ruddick pick up a couple of heat wins. Under the old 20 heat system there were enough blowouts - including world finals and GPs - due to one rider being unbeatable and the rest taking points off each other. Often the run-offs for minor places - or in the old British Finals at Coventry for the final qualifying spots for the next world champs round - were the best races of the night. Individual meetings rarely has the cut and thrust excitement of team racing, whatever the format

We have the same problem in the leagues with play offs, the team with the most ;points at the end of the season is the winner of that league

screm
If you like your speedway close with plenty passing and re-passing then this wasn't the meeting for you as the racing was well strung out with little or no chance of passing especially on a track so slick. In some ways this kind of racing was to be expected when you look at the gap in experience between the likes of Robert Lambert and some of the riders with little experience in riding not only in these meetings but on a track as big as Berwick`s. Lambert was a worthy winner and went virtually untroubled all night, I hope he can start making the strides onto the next stage of his young career.

Connor Mountain was the model of consistency in the qualifying heats, then won his semi. Must admit I was slightly surprised the Final wasn't pulled back as Mountain lifted alarmingly going into the first bend messing up Bewley and Greaves. The video put out on by Speedway GB on its Twitter feed is dreadful - they are better off hiding that sort of thing away. Correct my bad. mauger65
well done Robert.... but would have been good to have seen him miss a start..... just to see if he could pass anyone !! not for the first time..... whilst it looks fast and furious.... Berwick remains a truly difficult place to pass .... its a one line track and as long as you don't make a mistake you wont lose a place
Bagpuss
The entries and exits of the bends are too narrow, and with a football pitch inside there ain't a lot that can be done about that unfortunately. Seeing riders fly round bends three and four at top speed is still a spectacular sight though.
Normski
Probably one of the bigger pitches in Scottish League. In a perfect world it would be ideal to do a Glasgow, and take some of the pitch away and widen the track as Tatum said on Sky it wouldn't take that much but can't see it happening. Track was slick on Tuesday I think there was a little concern about the weather which thankfully never happened.
