WembleyLion
A truly great Speedway rider and a wonderful example to others. I was fortunate to watch him ride throughout the 70’s and win his 4th, 5th and 6th World titles! R.I.P. Ivan
847084
Terrible news. Absolute legend, an overused word but wholly deserved in his case. RIP
erniew
Very sad news, I was fortunate enough to watch him ride for Newcastle in the 60's wonderful memories of a great, possibly the greatest ever speedway rider. Rest in Peace Ivan.

Aces51
Sad news. Having watched Speedway for over 60 years Ivan was, without doubt, the best rider I have seen and his record speaks for itself. My thoughts are with his family and those closest to him.

OveFundinFan
Knew he wasn’t doing so well but always a shock to hear, and so sad. One of the true greats.

Hodgy
Very sad we have lost the biggest name in World Speedway. Speedway = Ivan Mauger. The ultimate legend - RIP.
BWitcher
Very very sad to have just seen this on Social Media. Ivan won the very first speedway race I ever saw, I was only 5 so didn't really know who he was, but was told 'the guy in the red helmet' is the best. I was hooked from then on. RIP
martinmauger
Very sad news indeed, deepest sympathy to the Mauger family. Difficult to know what to say that hasn't been said already, except Ivan Mauger was The Best and is still a Hull Vikings legend. RIP Ivan.... BOBBATH
I posted my comment in years gone by-maybe mistakenly-recall Ivan in 1964 and 1965-best ever in my view.

guitar_art
I was very lucky to have spent five minutes talking to the great man on the centre green at Perry Barr during our return meeting (The Alan Hunt Memorial Meeting) in 2007. I was star struck and he was a lovely lovely man. Very sad today.
steve roberts
Very sad news indeed. Ivan was the best...the greatest rider of any generation. I was fortunate to watch him ride on many occasions and his dedication and professionalism was exceptional. Recall his visit to White City dressed in top hat and tails paraded whilst sat on the bonnet of Danny Dunton's Rolls Royce having earlier in the day been awarded his MBE. A great man and there'll never be another. RIP Ivan.
g13webb
Sad news to hear the passing of Ivan Mauger. A true gentleman who became a legend. I have always regarded him as the most complete rider I ever saw. He took professionalism to a different level. and showed lesser riders the way to win. His degree of detail was beyond limits. He more than any other paved the way for the sport as it is today. A truly tragic lost..... RIP Ivan...
