NEW LOOK FOR STAR

I like the red top on the front cover; took me right back to the 60s. Could we have a black and white photo to go with it? Seriously, I do like the new style presentation.

My first thoughts as well... The cover is a bit so-so but looks really good on the inside. And not much to decrease from the amount of foreign and gt news...

Excellent revamp !!!

But could we have less space devoted to Grasstrack and European/Overseas news?

I think you'll find they need the sales to grasstrack and overseas supporters.

Small price to pay for the survival of a magazine that, let's be honest, was dumped by a major publisher (IPC) and had to be rescued by the brave efforts and financial risk of its own editorial staff. With the sport collapsing in Britain they needed to do anything to prop sales up.

IT'S still a work in progress. Thanks for the positive comments. Just wish the potential audience was bigger

I havnt seen one for ages Phil, can barely move out of this house due to this rotten weather.. and the rain off's.  I dont know how you could make it more appealing Phil, its very difficult. When you take everything into consideration if you go to a meeting with entry programme travel and eats perhaps its the cost that puts people off ? , but its trying to drag in that wider audience who dont buy the star, even if its 2-3 times a season.

I still think the Speedway Star is very good value and the start of the season issue is second to none a real nice front cover.

Yep the bumper issue is always good value Sid, i know they do it, but mid season track and team reviews pen pictures and mid  season stats  would be good, might help the sales and advertise the fact that a certain team will be in the following weeks star. And the British GP edition, but i do wish they would make more of it in the Star, maybe a middle [  fixed ] supliment type thing  this is our showpiece event.

If they could do that sort of edition everyweek mate that would be superb i know it probably isnt 't viable. But i have said endless times compared to other papers and magazines it is still great value they must be doing something right to be able to last the test of time.

I see what your saying, but to do all or maybe the premiership and championship it would come down to cost of producing the magazine and the cost to fans, i think the idea of doing a mid season review could work but it depends, you would have to cover the 3 leagues otherwise there would be moans, and that might not be viable. thats why they produce a bumper edition in March, although it is food for thought. either mid season or at the end of the season. with that seasons stats. But i still say a decent supliment fixed in the star for the British GP is a must, you need to capture the publics imagination and as i said baring a British world cup this is our showpiece event. It is still value, but many people do not have bottomless pits of money, thats why clubs, and perhaps the star need to dangle that carrot. End of the day, it all comes down to cost.

The Speedway star is very important to Speedway i can't ever imagine not ever having it touch wood it goes on for years to come. The bumper March edition for me people would pay extra for it it is certainly worth it certainly from my perspective.

When I was young the first page I read was Pam Oakes' every week; followed by Rising to the Occasion. Back in those days there were so many fans that you had people going through the crowd selling it; their cry was another thing that added to the occasion. Speedway had a aura and the supporters were as one with every club having its own war cry. I doubt that the sport will ever be the same as it was then as even today's Polish crowds look very sparse in comparison to those days. Crowds of 16,000 were the norm at Wimbledon with both Ronnie and Barry in the team with good riders like Cyril Brine, Olle Nygren and Trevor Hedge just to name a few.

Today the sales of the Speedway Star are probably well below 10% of the sales they were then and so they have had to cut their suit to fit the cloth. They will never be able to meet the demands of every speedway fans but since it started it has done its best to achieve that. I do not mind people suggesting things to put in the magazine but why complain about what is already in it?  There are places that have speedway as an after thought in their magazines and you have various types of stock car, quads, sidecar speedway, grass track and long track depending in what country you are in.
