The carpark was slightly soft on Thursday night so I would think after 2 more days of rain I wouldn't think it would be the best for parking. allthegearbutnaeidea
Just because Newcastle have a bunch of lazy fans who wouldn’t put the covers down for poor old Steve he’ll have a dig at the track who do.

We have plenty of volunteers to put sheets down. Access to the stadium is the problem and, with a dog meeting every Saturday afternoon and night, there is no timescale available to put them down, before a Sunday evening. Could Berwick have been able to cover the track if Berwick Rangers had been at home today (genuine question)? It wasn't supposed to be a dig at the track/promotion/volunteers. It was a dig at 1) the weather and 2) those who think that covers will save every meeting. I was at the FIM meeting a couple of years back when we were standing around for 50 mins whilst the FIM made the decision to call the meeting off, something that could have been done an hour and half earlier. That proved back then they work, but only if it's stops raining in time.
topsoil
Been waiting for the first time covers fail to save a meeting, because I knew there would be people out there waiting to gloat. Speaks volumes about the mentality of some people.
Aceslider
Here's my stupid question for the day. Assuming you have covers, where does the rain go if no sunshine or warm air to allow evaporation? I would imagine it would run off onto the track surface as soon as the covers were uplifted. Certainly don't imagine that they provide an absolute guarantee of no rain offs, but I am sure in many circumstances they would allow meetings which otherwise would have been cancelled, to go ahead. Full marks and respect to Berwick and other tracks who have the desire and resource to utilise covers. Not sure it would work at Brough mind because of the notoriously poor drainage (Tsunami might enlighten us?)
jenga
not the best start to the season for Berwick and Newcastle fans , but fear not . just nip over to workington speedway and get in for tenner (£5.00 of which goers directly to the BEN FUND )SO 20 HEATS OF PURE ACTION AND GOOD OLD FASHIONED CUMBRIAN WEATHER TO GO WITH IT ) Brrr ! still bright but chilly over here . so stick an extra £10.00 in the fuel tank and whizz over . dont forget to paint a boiled egg for the comp .(but not while driving) get there early and make a claim on that bit of concrete and warm it up . good line up of riders / ENJOY ... In all probability the covers WOULD have worked tonight, if there is no more precipitation. But car-park is sodden and the tractors would still have been pulling cars out the mud at midnight. The temperature this evening won't get above 2C and there can be no pleasure in standing or sitting in that, with every possibility of snow or sleet coming in, and a bitter nor'easterly wind whipping around. We all want to have speedway on, but the actual track isn't the only concern for a promotion to bear in mind. And as has been said, if you put covers down nine times and save eight of the meetings at around £2K a time - you're doing it right!
jenga
dont buy covers , just move the season start date back a good month or so . with less meetings , it will become a shorts n t shirt sport . easy .then it will become a part time sport and anyone who wants to ride speedway will have to have a job to fund it . While I agree with most of your points regarding calling off this meeting, I have attend Berwick regularly since it opened and I yet to see any problems regarding cars having to be pulled out with tractors! It has been muddy but it's not a difficult place to get out off IMO .

The season opener last year there was five or six cars towed out the car park by one of the tractors, on Thursday past after the practice there was a car and a motor home had to be pushed out
