My fav:

15.8.1 If the Referee stops a heat, following an incident or accident, where the rider causing
the stoppage and his team partner were in third and fourth place and a re-run is called
with one of those riders excluded, the Referee has the sole discretion to order that the
remaining team partner will start on a 15 metre handicap in gate position c or d (the
opposing team does not change positions).

That one boils down to riders staying down, hoping to seek an advantage in a re-run after his team mate was in third.

I wonder what happens if the rider is already off a 15m handicap.

I like this one:

15.16 HANDICAP HEAT RULES (for offences shown in Art 15.3, or permitted by an SR
c) as per Art. 15.15.7 only the Handicap option is available.
In an Individual event that permits the use of the 15-metre “Handicap” option for a
Starting Offence (Art 15.3, then the ruling allows for multiple use, providing gate (d)
is used, then gate (e) for any subsequent offending riders.

Yeh, start 'em on the dog track...

...strewth having not clapped eyes on a rule book for donkey's years the wording and definition of same is just as confusing!

A bit of a contradiction in the Averages rule, in that although they will be Rolling Averages (eventually), 2017 stats are not included.

Updated averages will be achieved once a rider has completed 4H & 4A.

So most riders in the Championship will not attain new averages until probably early July due to the reduced fixture list

And no changes after August 14th so a very narrow window for any changes

Id imagine that has been done on purpose to stop the rider merry go round, therefore only really allowing for mostly like for like rider changes on their starting averages - especially if riders miss the odd meeting here and there through injury.

Would it be a good idea for the “no touching the tapes” rule to be extended to any time within the two minute clock? It could then stop riders pushing through the tapes as they garden with start marshals having to hold the tapes up or down. Riders would only be able to garden the area behind the tapes instead of trying to prepare the first couple of yards past the tapes as well! I often wonder just how much difference the gardening makes anyway.

A wide loose rut could mean a rider is more likely to snake away from the start which may result in messier first turns

Why doesn't every track have a vibrating compactor they use after every other race. Have the track staff prepare the gate and then do away with gardening

Because at some tracks preparation of favoured gates already happens. Giving them equipment would only make it worse! ;)

Amendments to 2018 Regulations

15.2.6 Only if a rider is at the Starting Gate with sufficient time remaining of the
2- minute allowance, be permitted to prepare their Start Area, provided they remain in
full, personal control of their motorcycle, have their Cut – Out Lanyard attached, and
with their motorcycle facing the direction of racing.

Issued 27/03/18 by the SCB Office.

To be facing in the direction of racing ie front wheel facing direction of racing. Not at 90 degrees as some have done in the past. Hope referees have the guts to keep to rules.
