HertsRacer
Don't think this has been mentioned elsewhere, but on the BBC website there is a report that the music industry is hailing a major victory after ministers vowed to change planning rules in England to protect venues from complaints about noise. In the future It will be down to developers to address noise issues if they opt to build homes near a long-established music venues. The report also warns that this was not just confined to music, but also regarding complaints being made about the ringing of church bells as well as about noise emanating from speedway stadiums and even farms. foamfence
And how many clubs would this affect? Even at Swindon they're building the houses before the new stadium, then again, are they ever going to build a new stadium?
Hawk127
It nearly did for Mildenhall and if you look at how close the houses are getting to Foxhall and it would/will only be a matter of time before someone moves in and whinges. It only takes one if the story about Romford was correct.
HertsRacer
Maybe only at Swindon at present, bearing in mind that any new stadium is a replacement and that a stadium already exists. Mildenhall have had problems in the past, and with so many new houses being built there are bound to be some near enough to tracks for the noise to be audible. As you say it just takes one individual.
drew2
I seem to recall even Somerset had complaints of the noise but when the testers came out on a race night all they could hear was the M5! Good news though for speedway if it is correct.
THE DEAN MACHINE
Interesting to read that the formulaE that was held in London still got people complaining even though it was silent , some people will just complain about anything if it doesn’t fit in with their precious life , tossers that’s all they are

Sings4Speedway
There have been several complaints about the noise at Kent over the years including several made on weeks where speedway wasn't even running. I feel any like these should be immediately dismissed as there is clearly an agenda rather than genuine concern. Sadly some people are only happy when they are trying to make others miserable. We had this with a near weekly petition about a mx practice track. Once we proved that they had complained when there was nobody on site one week none of the names on that petition could ever be taken into account again (which was nearly everybody) and we were granted 364 days planning permission. Asking some of the locals in the village shop one day after all this if the noise was really an issue it was said that most didn't mind but the bloke who organised it all was such a pain in the arse that they all signed to shut him up! It is a landmark new law that will do a lot for motorsport in general with places like Mallory Park and Brands Hatch having major problems with complainants.

This is a bit like the pc brigade that all jump on an issue even though 99% of the people are not affected and do not know what they are voting for or arguing about. steve roberts
Unfortunately Cowley would suffer the same issues if it ever re-opened for speedway in the future.
A ORLOV
I just hope that the authorities do not end up going to electric bikes as if it is as boring as Formula E motor racing the sport will die very quickly.

I wonder if the people who complained about this also complained about the local RAF airbase which is much, much closer to a built-up area! And what about all the many houses built right next to busy roads where there's constant rumbling traffic noise?

It all sounds mad. I don't know that part of the country very well, but I did call in and see a meeting there last summer, thanks to being in East Anglia for a while. As I drove out for what felt like miles along small roads in the middle of nowhere, I remember thinking it was an ideal location for a stadium and couldn't possibly have any noise complaints. How wrong I was! Whereas at Swindon, for instance, from the track you can now almost look into people's living rooms...
*JJ
With Mildenhall, the complaints were about the stock car racing, where the noise went on until the small hours, not the speedway.
