Scott Nicholls Not Allowed To Ride In The Championship?

For what its worth I think the BSPA have got it right....you ask alot of Ipswich fans what they thought of Scott coming in and riding in all the finals at the last minute last Season when not ridden previously regularly at the lower level !

Its quite simple..if he wants to ride CL, get a team place then we'll love to see him, but its not right to cherry pick the glory finals when the serious stuff starts just because his regular rides had finished.

Personally I thought Nicholls explained it quite well that he was more than willing to sign for the Witches last year but wasn’t offered the chance, guest appearances are all about extra money so I don’t blame him at all for taking the bookings.

Rumour has it he was set to replace Grajczonek at Sheffield in 2018 but the rule change buggered it up, probably why Bjerre is now set for a return after originally looking out of their team plans.

Having a fair team is more important to most fans than whether a rider can earn some extra cash at the end of the Season in the Final's

Oh really

Surely the whole point of speedway is to ride against each other, reach a point based system for each rider to provide a balanced set of rider's. If one rider suddenly drops down from a league he hasn't been riding in, especially when its a final, how can anyone judge whether its a fair replacement ?

For example he was swapped last season for Josh G, who most people would suggest Foxhole is not his favourite track for an Ipswich specialist

Thing is Steve to get a team place is what he wants - then he could have the chance to have a fairly assessed average in the CL.

The horse has bolted with regard to preventing riders above a certain average dropping down IMO.

Point is though Fuel Taps everyone has the same chance to get a team place....whose fault is that ?

All I am simply saying is that "untested" rider's coming in at the last moment of the Season may not be a fair reflection of their genuine ability and no wonder people feel agrieved when they are changed for someone that does not go well at that particular track....i.e Josh G swap

I love watching Scotty ride, he is a legend but it didn't seem right him coming in last Season and thats why alot of fans were upset, I'm not blaming him personally

So, given that he’s a legend and people love watching him, would you object to him riding now on a 1.2 converted average of 8.98?

Rather have seen him get a team place then we would know for sure,

At the end of the day seeing him ride in a normal fixture is a very different prospect from seeing him ride in finals when his other fixtures have finished early

Aaarrgghhh. Yes, that’s the point. Regardless of what happened this year, are you happy for him to have a Championship place next year on 8.98 or not?

Yes, why should he lose out on job - it was the promoters who let him ride for both sides in a two legged final last season. And by doing that they showed that each match is just a fun event for the local fans and is entirely contrived. No one should take it seriously.

Cannot see why not. From a sample of 16 riders I have taken who currently have averages in both leagues, the conversion works out at just under 1.25 so you could say 1.3 is about right. Incidentally, Nick Morris has a higher PL average than he does a CL one..

Teams have been using track specialists for years as guests.

Not allowing Scott to ride CL does seem wrong as now they are changing a rule 3 times in 3 years. What is there to stop a similar scenario for Scott to guest again at the business end in 2018.
