Scott Nicholls Not Allowed To Ride In The Championship?

I'd love to be involved in the sport and summoned to HQ for a dressing down where they say they'll throw the rulebook at me

...... except there isn’t really a rule book - you’d be stalked every night through the season by a shady promoter scribbling new rules on post it notes and fag packets!

So Scott could guest last season in the Championship but cannot ride this season in the Championship?

Ok....

That makes sense...

Once again it is one of those needless 'let's add this on' rules that frustrate the Sport's followers and sees us looking at the sport in a negative way....

(And that never can be good for a business)

Now, there may be a genuinely great reason why Scott cannot ride in the Championship with a converted Premiership average...

However typically with the BSPA, you never get the rationale behind any ruling....

Start sharing the rationale for decisions made and maybe they would get a better hearing?

The 'stupidity' of the rule is that it is, effectively, a life time ban from the Championship (or until such time as said riders get their averages in the Premier below six points).

As I, and others, have said before, it is a 'restraint of trade' issue which would not survive a first legal hearing given the fact that others with similar PL averages are allowed to compete in the Championship.

It’s total madness and contradicts the promoters’ frequently quoted rationale of “cost-cutting”. Obviously, it would be cheaper to allow Nicholls and Kennett to double up rather than have to fly in the likes of Riss, Bjerre, Jørgensen, Palm Toft, Lindgren and Heartel, not to mention the Aussie brigade who think we owe them a living!

I don't think Nicholls should be in the CL. The problem is, Harris and Morris are allowed to be. Even Cook would be allowed to be if he wanted to.

It's actually a sensible move. If teams want riders of that caliber then move up.

That's always how it used to be. I still remember Richard Hellsen's comedy last band in order to stay below 6.00 with much amusement.

You have highlighted the key issue - 'consistency' of application across PL riders with similar averages. It either applies to all or none.

so we are stopping an experienced brit who could pass on sound good advice to youngsters from doubling up,but allowing aussies with a higher average than him to double up,when are we going to try and put the GREAT back into britain.

It is ok to have the experienced riders passing on sound advice to youngsters in the NL picking up an easy pay check but not in the CL.

There were 38 Premiership riders who achieved an average of 6 and above last season. Of those, 18 rode in the Championship and remain eligible to do so in 2018. Of the remaining 20, very few would be interested as they have, or will have, teams lined up in Sweden/Poland etc. So, apart from Scott and Edward, there might have been a glimmer of interest from riders such as Timo Lahti or David Bellego but I suspect that's about it. So why shut the stable door now? The horse has already bolted!

Isnt a bugger problem that Greaves, Williamson, Perks, Ash Morris etc are all struggling to get Championship places? Yet they all proved last season that theyre good enough to warrant places. The first 3s averages went up significantly.

I think its too early to say they are struggling to get places - long way to go until all teams complete.

Id be confident they will all be in - and so they should be.
