Ben Morley is owned by Rye House Marco as Tony E says

Even better, it strengthens our case that no matter what averages our seven are said to be on, any other team could have made an attempt to sign them on those "disputed" averages.

Ps Did Jason ever sign a prelim contract with us or does he become and Eastbourne asset?

Its confirmed in Speedway Star that Scott Nicolls had agreed terms with Lakeside before being told he wasn't allowed to ride in the CL.

So just to be clear, Lakeside were not allowed to sign a rider that finished last season on a PL average of 7.78 , but it was ok to sign a rider that finished on an average of 8.87.

Anyone fancy having a go at explaining the logic behind that ?

Yes there is, if you were following the discussion elsewhere.

For many years riders with a top division (EL/SGBP) average over 6 were not allowed to double up in the second division (PL/SGBC). In 2017 all were allowed temporarily.

The 6 point rule though has been reintroduced for 2018. Those riders over six who took up the option in 2017 are allowed to carry on in the second tier. Those like Nicholls who didn't are not.

You may not agree with the logic. I don't but it is there, even if only at BSPA level.

With just two riders affected, both British, it makes little sense to even seasoned followers of speedway. What do the promoters hope to achieve by their stance?

I would not even bother to try explain this scenario to someone new to the sport.

Not true - Hans Andersen was rumoured to have been considered for Peterborough, and also the likes of Rohan Tungate, Max Fricke, Timo Lahti, Patrick Hougaard, Kim Nilsson, etc. would also be ineligible.

So let's not try paint this as an anti-British measure.

I was going by the article in Speedway Star but accept that others are impacted (not sure though how many of them would want to ride at the lower level). If they do not get a PL offer then they are effectively banned from UK speedway which cannot be right.

The problem is of BSPA's own making given that we have riders with 'superior' PL averages who qualify for a Championship berth whereas those with lesser averages do not. The law of unforeseen consequences applies.

More stupid laws from the BSPA continuing to ruin the sport and riders livelyhoods..

The only way to have allowed Scott and Edward a team place in the Championship would be to introduce a ruling something like the following.

(a). No rider who has a Premiership CMA of 8 or more can ride in the Championship unless he has an established average in that league attained in 2017.

(b). Any rider who has a Premiership CMA below 8 is eligible to  ride in the Championship in 2018 subject to either:

        (i) Having a team place in the Premiership for 2018 as well.

or  (ii) Having a CMA in the second tier during the previous two seasons.

Point (b)i) would ensure a new or existing rider doesn't just take a soft option

Hearing that the excrement is about to meet the oscillating device with regards to averages used by a number of teams. Let’s just says nobody actually knows what’s going on. It’s entirely possible that Lakeside are the only ones to have got it right.

Hearing more than one team is being forced into changes though.

Could it have something to do with those championship teams that have signed riders with dual averages from both leagues calculating from 2017 championship averages now have to use there premiership average multiplied by 1.3.

Wouldn't Nick Morris ave be wrong now too... 8.87 x 1.3 = 11.53
