Not really any riders available or willing to use up the points? Slightly strange choice as I thought if it was a 3 pointer it would be Tedham. That said if any rider deserved a little luck this season it's Sam so I wish him well.

Maybe Stoke decided they wanted to develop a relatively young rider for once rather than just using the older guys, I don't have anything against older riders riding in the NL, (As like captains), but I think the main focus should be youth

The higher the quality of the league the higher quality of rider you will produce. Both Tedham & Woods have had a few years in the league now and are both still 3 pointers. I can see the sense in opting for the younger rider as they have longer to develop and some riders develop slower than others.
pete cc
Unfortunately Tedham isn't developing, only evolving
Islander15
Another poor looking Stoke team despite the revamp.
pete cc
A bit early to start writing anyone off. I agree that some don't look as strong as others but let's see a wheel turned before we start judging.
mac101
Sad to see Luke chessals has had a bad motorcycling accident in the USA breaking numerous bones and which will put him out of action for a long while so stoke will be looking for a new number one with 9.27 to play with who will fit in there that's not got a team

Broken tibula and fibula and busted knee sounds like he could probably not be riding this season at all gutted for him always scores well at stoke will be hard to replace even with 9.27 left
Sings4Speedway
Best wishes to Luke never nice to hear of nasty injuries. Big issues for stoke now unless they could land mountain or perks perhaps?

Islander15
Knight or Mountain surely? Then they’ll have an out and out number 1 as well. Unless they’re too young haha.

Perks has a CL average of 5.08, (presumably 10.16 in NL, so he wouldn't fit) But even if he did fit, if he later signed for a CL team he'd have to quit the NL, I believe. People like Perry, Mountain, Knight would seem to be available choices, but they've always been available, and yet Stoke signed Chessell in preference to them. That suggests that those riders maybe don't want to ride at Stoke or Stoke can't afford them. He didn't ride NL in 2017. As he hasn't got a 2017 NL average, but does have a 2017 CL average, I would assume he would have an NL average of 2 x his CL. = 10.16?
