iris123
Video showing racing at Greenford https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzAQVTQfNiA Looks like this was the Trotting Track venue that held 'speedway' for a short period.Though as the comment underneath states,it was racing more akin to todays Longtrack.Seems quite exciting, but not that well attended https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenford_Park_Trotting_Track Taken from the excellent Homes of British Speedway The opening meeting was 7th April 1928.The track is a genuine cinders track, nowhere less than 60 feet wide... The very first race saw A.Weston crash, with his machine subsequently bursting into flames!! In 1928 races were held over 5 laps giving a distance of nearly 3 miles!!!! Open meetings were held in 1928,1929 and then came back in 1931.Racing ceased at the end of that year mainly because of complaints about dust and noise from local residents Well looking at the youtube clip it does seem people were living very close to the track, but one of the early victims of local residents, that continues to plague the sport today Edited October 7, 2017 by iris123

norbold
I believe there is a good account of the history of Greenford in a book called "Speedway in the South East." If only I could remember the name of the author.......
iris123
Strange that Norbold. It seems one forumite thinks Greenford has been all but 'forgotten',mentioning no names....
