DSC67
Davy Watt's only a reserve, there's a good chance he won't even get a ride
Midland Red
Yeah imagine saying that the wild card spot and reserve berths would be based on performance in the national champs, and then actually doing just that. What a mockery! Unfortunately, the comment I responded to - and I'm sure you'll agree - "IT is also Watt's farewell meeting and the Aussies felt he deserved the chance to make his exit at the Etihad." gave no mention of qualification, just the impression that he'd been given the slot as his farewell
OveFundinFan
So, does ANYBODY know for a fact .... 1) he qualified from a meeting where it was declared that a rider would get first reserve at the Aussie 2017 GP or 2) he qualified by virtue of retiring and the Aussies thought it would be "nice" to make Aussie GP 2017 his final meeting.
waiheke1
It's the first one. Unless anyone thinks it's a coincidence that Masters won and got the wildcard, Sedgemen came 2nd sand got first reserve slot and Watt came 3rd and was given the 2nd reserve slot? Unfortunately, the comment I responded to - and I'm sure you'll agree - "IT is also Watt's farewell meeting and the Aussies felt he deserved the chance to make his exit at the Etihad." gave no mention of qualification, just the impression that he'd been given the slot as his farewell So basically you had no idea on the facts and decided it was an opportunity to have another dig at the GP series... Meaningless fixture - pointless travelling t'other side of globe for it Just to see Tai Woffinden do a lap of honour? Oh, and Jason Doyle too? A World Final in Australia would be something worthwhile Meaningless? Seeing who gets crowned world champ, who finishes on the rostrum and who qualifies for next year. Yes, very meaningless!

Mark
Seriously, how can Davy Watt be a genuine reserve at a GP. He is long retired, was riding very poorly, not ridden for ages. Having a very good career previously should have no say on taking a place in the world championship at a vital meeting. No chance of him being anywhere near competitive and that has to be the most important thing. If he rides in a crucial heat that may decide the Champion, Top 3 or Top 8 it would be a farce. This is the World Championship not a benefit meeting. Edited October 9, 2017 by marky

Yes, but good enough to finish 3rd ahead of the likes of Kurtz and Morris in the Aussie champs.
racers and royals
I think BT Sport made the same error last year as well, but last night they gave the start time for the programme on Saturday 28th October as 7.45 AM instead of the correct time of 8.45AM !!! Poor form. Yes, but good enough to finish 3rd ahead of the likes of Kurtz and Morris in the Aussie champs. Are you being serious ? Yes Watt came 3rd but that was in January, not last week. He was in awful form for Rye House and retired 3 months ago because he couldn't win a race. He's not ridden a competitive heat in 3 months. How can you compare with the winner of the British Championship

How can you compare with the winner of the British Championship Because in both cases the agreement was that GP placed would be given based on places in the national championship. So if someone won the British championship but then fell horribly out of form, you wouldn't want them to getvthe spot? Or if say they got injured and didn't ride between the brit final and Cardiff they should give up the spot? Out of interest Phil, do the reserves get everything paid for like the normal riders? Mark
Watt has retired. End of story, he is not eligible. If he gets a ride he will only embarass himself and make a mockery of a vital GP.
