Premiership Grand Final 1st Leg Swindon V Wolves 02.10.17

Recommended Posts

The closest to Adams in league wins is Middlo. Which is ridiculous really as Middlo has had top teams handed to him by Ford. No one,and I mean no one, to touch Adams.

Still not perfect tonight. Riss should have been in heat 8, Greaves in heat 9.

I thought the track was awful in the later heats, but it started off Ok. I don't expect many passes at Swindon but Jan O Pedersen (circa 1988) could have had 30 laps to pass Nigel Leaver on that track after heat 15 & not got close.

Thought Carr should have been excluded heat 2 & no way did Morris make the 2 mins in heat 13.

You think Freddie would have scored less than 9 from 5 rides??

RR scored 7 from 4 rides, potentially the least Jacob would have got.

Wolves hopefully will be able to prepare a much better race track than they were able to do last week but if any track can do it it will be the multi award winning Monmore Green circuit. :t:

A month ago Freddie scored 10+1 from 5, but included 2 from a double points ride so really 8+1, and Jacob 9 from 5;

So 9 from 5 from the Freddie guest and 7 from 4 for Jacob's r/r, is roughly quid pro quo, so I think it was a fair comment.

That said, the Swindon track was dirtless tonight which may or may not have favoured the missing men?

Poor meeting, but Wolves deserved their victory 👍

Thought the track was pretty good, actually. Not many heats were strung out; there were some excellent passes and several attempts which didn't quite stick.

Still scratching my head as to what went on out there; long-term Wolves fans on the back straight were, after sober consideration, ranking it as the best performance from their club they had ever seen.

As ever it was the little things that impressed, adding up to a greater whole -- Howarth's ultra-brave pass, stand-in skipper Schlein's enthusiastic congratulations for Greaves (nicely timed to take place in front of the Wolves supporters) after the latter's valuable third place and even the evident dismay of Harris after conceding the heat 13 5-1. Never was there a more committed guest rider, I'm taking his valuable points as karma for all the grudging clapping and gritted teeth congratulations I've emanated in the past as he laid waste to Wolves hopes as a Bee!

It's certainly not over (I may have been one of the cautious fans Beefy Keefy was referring to); Swindon remain a more than capable outfit, will be fired up for the return and Wolves will, of course, be without their main two Monmore weapons in Lindgren and Thorssell.

But what a night! By no means the least of the pleasures was chatting with a number of Robins fans afterwards; all were warm in their congratulations, despite their evident disappointment, and IMHO their conduct did the club great honour. Roll on Wednesday.

Yet Schlein went 3rd to 1st in Heat 14....

Really well done to Wolves last night, I wasn't surprised they put up a good show, but I never expected them to win like they did.

Making Rory Captain was an excellent choice. When he was at Lynn he made an immense difference to the team by his motivation skills and, his encouragement to the riders. He creates so much spirit within the team, he was equivalent to having an extra man.

Always a decent gater, he will always score well on difficult tracks. Seeing him perform last night, makes you realise, the massive blunder Buster made, when he publically slated Rory for stating the Lynn track was unsafe to ride...

One thing puzzle me is that, if Rosco is such a top manager, wouldn't you have thought he would have assured the track was to their liking. Any home advantage disappears when the track is not to your liking.....

They say, 'It's not over till the fat Lady sings', But I can hear her rehearsing her cords already......:wink:

Not a bad meeting, not a great meeting but came across ok on the box..

Nice to see Swindon built their own little 'Karlsson corridor' off turn two which the Wolves lads used often..!!

Track was very slick in places, unfortunately for Swindon it appeared to be in places where they expected to find grip! It often looked when in front that that they rode a line they usually would without even considering where the opposition were, (as so confident of getting drive) and found themselves getting passed underneath..

Howarth proved there was grip but very, very wide. A great ride from him..

Not over though I would say due to the missing point machines that are Lindgren and Thorssell...

Given how both are such Monmore specialists, off their usual ten rides you would expect them to rattle in 25 or so. Therefore a return of around 15/16 (not unrealistic) off their programmed rides on Wednesday by their replacements, will still give Swindon some hope as neither will obviously be in heat fifteen..

Depends if Doyle goes through the card I reckon. And that will depend if he hasn't got more than one eye on the GP...

Tatum pointed out before the meeting that Ronnie Russell had prepared the track with grip inside and outside and slick in the middle so did nobody from Swindon walk the track or they just thought they only had to turn up to win. They can say it was different from normal but they didnt think we need to ride where the Wolves riders were riding. Rosco and the team were complacent he even said on tv they wernt excited but very relaxed. Overall not a bad meeting with a couple of good battles and some good passes.

The same issue confronts Wolves tomorrow that confronted Swindon yesterday. Expectation, and how you deal with it.

I think we know Wolves wont lose it, Swindon will have to win it, Adams wont let that happen. He got them right on it from the start and when a team is massive underdogs that helps too.

I don't think the track had much to do with it. Wolves were just so much more up for it.

Jason Doyle as much as admitted in his interview at the end that they though twit would be easy whereas Wolves came fully up for a fight.

Agree with that but also riders off form at the wrong time, i thought that would even out as Masters and Howarth were not great at Belle Vue in the semi but they were the difference last night.

Wolves without Lindgren and Thorsell Would be nowhere near as strong as Poole. With very limited choice of guest and r/r it will be a stroll in the park for Swindon. It really has just been handed to the robins on a plate. All they have to do is turn up. Seriously.

What a shame the grand final has now turned into the biggest anti climax the sport has seen since the inception of the playoffs.

Your predictions don't get any better do they Steve?!

Show me where you or anyone else predicted differently.

Its been summed up elsewhere. Rosco laughing and joking talking on the mic to the crowd just before the meeting. Doyle admitting afterwards they thought it would be easy.

Complacency got Swindon big time. They should have won at a canter but blew up. They should have been on their A game, not their C. Wolves were in the right place mentally and physically. But with that lineup, if Swindon had properly prepared in all aspects before the meeting they should have had a healthy lead to take to Monmore tomorrow.

Riss overtook Museilak for gods sake! OK he fell but it shows the difference between the two teams attitude.

As a neutral....'Love to see 'Rossiter's' cheesy grin get wiped off his face' !

Adams proving yet again that he's the master when it comes to managing a speedway team !

It's far from over...may the best team win !
