StevePark
they said at the last meeting they would know in a fortnight so waiting to know if they are going to let us know I think what George said was "hopefully, we will know in about 2 weeks." I don't think you can put a definite timescale to this sort of thing. We just need to be patient. Terrace Grumbler
That looks like the 1975 or 1976 team that you are meaning. '75 team (mainly) was (appearances in brackets) Tom (47) & Joe (44), Havvy (41), Ron Henderson46), Mike Watkin (37), Robbie Blackadder (35), Tim Swales (39) and Phil Michelides (36). John Robson (4) and Tony Boyle (1) also appeared. The '76 team was: Joe O (39), Tom O (42) Ron H (27), Phil M (40), Havvy (10), Andy Cusworth (42), Robbie B (36) and Tim S (34). Also (briefly) appearing were: Greg Clarke (1), Martin Cusworth (2), Malcolm Davies (3), Gerarde Ellis (4) and Robin Dixon (5). Thank you Steve, much appreciated. diamond@heart
No that team with Kenny Carter was 1978. But you are right to say "1982 team", coz 1982 Team had Ian Thomas (Promoter), Dave Younghusband (Manager), Alan Emerson, Tom Owen (Capt.), Joe Owen, Rod Hunter, Keith Bloxsome, Bobby Beaton and Robbie Foy, I believe this was the strongest Diamonds line up ever. Alan Emerson, Tom Owen, Joe Owen, Rod Hunter Bobby Beaton These 5 were in the league's heatleader class Keith Bloxsome was a high scoring reserve Robbie Foy was our other reserve I remember home matches went 5-1 followed by 5-1 etc but watching the team on away tracks was awesome. Our promoter was criticised by some for finding loop holes in the regs to assemble a team of heatleaders but really in the far off past when this awesome team were on track every track we visited had a bumper crowd because of the talent in the Newcastle side, so why criticise excellence when you are raking in much more cash through the turnstiles? I think the team building regulation averages we have now serves a useful purpose as we see closer scores and better racing than I remember when we were all conquering! But fingers crossed we operate in 2018 and we have a team like we had in 1982. It's all a matter of opinion which Newcastle Team was best but tell me a better line up than the above team That was one of my favourite Diamonds teams of all time. I used to love going to watch the Diamonds every week and wandering through the pits at the end of the meeting, nearly getting run over by riders who were coming off track after practicing or reserve riders finishing races. Absolutely bloody great. 😁😁 If I had a time machine I would travel back to that time again. I have loved watching the likes of Pedersen, Bargh, Larsen, Bach, Lambert and Worrall since then but always loved the Owens, Beaton and Hunter, to watch and I wish I had travelled away during those days. I know us die hards get criticised for harking on back to the good old days but I was a kid back then and it was this team that got me hooked on speedway, plus my Dad and Uncle and I think Ian Thomas was a one off. George English has done and does a fantastic job and I take my hat off to him.
FAST GATER
I can only wish you the best of luck and hope that you come to "tapes" in 2018 ,talking of the past i used to love the Diamond's visits to Elle Port in the 70's the Owens against Jacko and Finch were great times in our sport at NL level IMO. Graham Thomas always seemed half a step ahead of the ruling body and his fellow promoters but that was his cunning and guile approach to the sport OH how we(and the sport) miss him !!!! enotian
http://speedwaygp.com/news/article/6238/hancock-takes-rzeszow-challenge Some interesting Lewis Rose news. In line for some expert training. Not sure what it means for his 2018 availability though, should there be a 2018 that is. Dandelion
Looks like a good excuse from Hancock to step down and ran some easy money.IMO Hancock deserves all the praise, he's done A LOT for speedway and still does, if he wants to 'retire' to a lower league and make a little money whilst doing so, fair play to him, as long he's genuine and you know you'll get that with Greg, the guy is amazing

leander
How do you know that? Limited news from AGM on British speedway twitter feed states there are eleven teams in next years Championship ( eight in the Premiership). I assume it's last years ten teams plus Lakeside. Haven't heard of anyone else wanting to move up.

leander
I hope your right, and not just based on assumption. Well there are definitely 8 teams in the Premiership and 11 in the championship according to BS official webpage ( twitter bit on righthand side) . Lakeside said they were applying for Championship membership. Can't imagine anyone else would. No doubt we'll find out tomorrow morning with the official statement..
