You would think, Chris Harris would be nailed on for an invite.

sidewinder
. All past Silver Helmet winners HERE, plus their Golden Helmet of 1928 & '29. It's a very different silver helmet. It was first raced for in 1928. The actual helmet has been missing since the early 1990's. It possibly went overseas.

It possibly went overseas. . There was no Silver Helmet raced for back in '28 or '29 ! But a Golden Helmet race was staged regularly, by heats and a Final in 1928, and by a weekly challenge in 1929. All results were reported in 'The Auto' of the day. The first mention of a Silver Helmet competition, again a 2nd-Half event, was in October 1945, won by Bill kitchen. Obviously the full face helmet of today isn't that one.

Allegedly it is the oldest prize in speedway. that was how it was always promoted. How true it is I don't know, but it is a very old piece of kit. In the style of the very first riders. foamfence
This farce has certainly been watered down over the last few days, it reminds of the Brian Havelock days when he'd announce a line-up and half of them know nothing about it. boz
Certainly not the case for this one - unfortunately there have been meetings re-arranged for tonight taking riders away and then a couple of others receiving guest bookings and having to withdraw. A couple of late injuries/illness has also made things tougher but I know Jitendra especially has not been off the phone for the last two weeks trying to get riders to ride.
