Paulco
I sincerely hope you are right. But - what about those who don't? A reformed lower division for British riders I would imagine

Hawk127
................ and the inevitable drop in quality for the Supporters of those Clubs. If some clubs simply cannot afford to put racing on at anything other than NL or a reformed NL then surely it is better to keep the tracks open and operating then loose them altogether to the sport. Next thing would be they tarmac the track (stocks and other four wheel sport prefer hard tracks rather than shale) and that is it. Many other issues are affecting the sport and it is in the final throes of survival as we know it unless some serious changes are made closed season. As is said elsewhere a few wealthy individuals keep some clubs going but eventually reality hits home and the idea money and a bottomless pit suddenly rears its head for those individuals. Good luck to all clubs and hopefully no more names are lost to the sport.

But wouldn't it be even better if all Clubs could stay in theChampionship where most, if not all of them belong?

Absolutely and that would be best for business but alas if some rumours are correct it might be wishful thinking. Fingers crossed anyway.
waytogo28
Wishful thinking doesn't pay the bills and neither do stay at home 'fans' You can't make customers spend their money on Tesco ready made meals if they prefer to buy or grow the ingredients to cook their own. Speedway clubs need to sell what the supporters want to buy.
ch958
there used to be an idiot on here who everyone laughed at but he had one great idea - alongside a D2 level single league tracks could operate a 'super six' league with no limits on who is included in teams for a short competion (5 home 5 away). Theres a lot wrong with the idea but it does have merits.

Hamish McRaker
I can't see how there could be a promotion/relegation playoff. By the time the championship playoffs have finished a lot of riders will have wound up their UK commitments and set ups for the year, and the weather will be getting very unpredictable. Also I can see the Premiership increasing to 12 teams for next season, with a championship made up from what's left plus some of the NL clubs. Then a third tier entirely youth/development. Our Premiership and Championship will become a development league for Poland and a home for Brits, Aussies and anyone else who wants to earn a bit extra and isn't getting enough employment elsewhere. Really!!, you can see the Premiership increasing ? i think the Premiership as it is now is finished, now i dont know for sure but listening around and there is no firm basis for this, but KL, Leicester, Somerset are three Teams who i think are more comfortable in the Championship. So Im exactly opposite to you as to which League will increase. Just which Teams do you think would want to be in the Premiership ?.

foamfence
................. and THAT, my friend, is a very good question. Answers awaited with great interest. As the difference between the two leagues has been greatly narrowed, I imagine quite a few would consider the Premiership, particularly if the other options were the NL or closure. The old excuse about it being too expensive, no longer applies.
greyhoundp
But the other question that is rarely spoken about, is do the Premiership want 12 Teams ?, that would mean the TV money being shared more thinly around, and Im guessing some would be against that. In my opinion British Speedway can only sustain 2 Leagues now, one being the NL which leaves 18 teams, if the Premiership can only muster 6 Teams which is highly probable then there can only be one way to go. Im predicting 1 League with 16 Teams plus the NL, Not through choice but through necessity. Edited August 31, 2017 by greyhoundp

I think premiership are happy with 8 , they were bending over backwards to help Coventry until . leicester and belle vue were secure within hours of both teams declaring they would run , the BSPA withdrew Covs license

Hamish McRaker
I think the four teams that qualify for this year's playoffs would do fine
Tsunami
I've read elsewhere that there wont be any TV money after this year. I don't think anybody can say that. I understand that SKY paid up their contract, and that money is being paid to BT on a trial basis with BT using basic coverage. I read Philip Rising on here saying that BT are pleasantly surprised at the viewing figures, and it depends if that will result in BT continuing their coverage with more serious coverage and might pay the BSPA to allow them to film the coverage. Might be competition for SKY if they have been watching the effects of them giving up on Speedway, and seeing BT making a fist of it. Be interesting to see what happens, but BT do seem to need Speedway more than SKY does at the moment. I doubt they actually 'need' it but any TV coverage is always welcome.

I think that BT have done very well by Speedway this year. I would be quite happy for them to continue coverage next year too as long as they pay something for it. Same goes for SKY if they wish to bid for Speedway - I would be happy with that too. As ff says - as long as Television Coverage continues to bring more publicity to the Sport - it has to be good.
