How Does Your Team Compare?

Recommended Posts

.... going on from the thread about doubling up, it occurred to me how much of a major problem we have in British Speedway, and how short changed us Speedway fans are.

Having the day off, I had time to check my hunch.

At Somerset we have not had one single home meeting, not even from day one of the season, where we have not had the use of RR or guests being used.

Not one meeting, where all seven riders, from both teams have been represented. I've not even looked to see what the away fixtures have been like.

From 11 meetings it's looked like this...

1 1 RR 1 Guest

2 1 Guest

3 1 RR

4 2 Guests

5 3 Guests

6 1 RR 2 Guests

7 1 RR 1 Guest

8 2 RR 3 Guests

9 1 RR 3 Guests

10 1 Guest 1 RR 1 withdrawn

11 1 RR

That imo...is disgusting and a major problem as to why fans are leaving in droves.

Way back in the sixties & seventies guests were often a bonus to a meeting a chance to see say a number one you only saw once a year replacing your number one.

And we were talking number ones then ..Briggo, mauger, Olsen, michanek, Collins, Simmons, boococks, betts, Louis, Nordin, nygren, Moore, Jansson

The second heat leader usually wansT bad either ...ashby, Kilby, Mortons, hedge,

Then it worked I think

But going to a meeting with 3 guests and r/r in your team renders it not your team

I think it only matters to fans who know they are guests, and it is not rammed down the throats of the viewers, who are both fans and/or potential fans.

If I watch say an Ice Hockey meeting or a Basketball match, if those sports had guests in their teams, I would be watching the event, not making judgement of the legitimacy of one or more of the participants.

Nigel frequently tells you how many clubs each rider has and who are guests. You need to have YOUR team and you need to see them race THEIR team, not select v select.

I've never understood why Nigel always mentions the guests and other teams the riders ride for when commentating. It doesn't add to the entertainment but does make the sport look silly and most fans already know this, no need to tell the general public

Nigel is just trying to give as much information to the Viewer as he can.
