Time To Scrap Doubling Up?

Originally the idea of fixed race nights was to make it possible for more overseas stars to ride here, as they are mostly out of our price range and Poland is considering even more restrictions on their freedom to ride, that side of it seems to be dead in the water. Personally I'd prefer to see one big league, even with the conditions that would impose on rider strength.

For me if they can sort out different race nights for our 2 leagues with so many overseas riders no longer wanting to ride here doubling up is the only way to go.

R/R guests etc is what really P's fans off which is caused by fixture clashes if they can sort different race nights for both leagues most of these problems will go away.

Even though we have lost a lot of top and middle order overseas riders with the aid of the top Championship riders doubling the Premier league is still a very competitive league this year with 6 teams at the start of August still in with a chance of reaching the play offs 7 if Kings lynn had not had their problems.This says to me that most of the teams are fairly well balanced which has led to many close meetings for me to have enjoyed.And the prospect of a very close exciting play off's which any of the teams could win.

With perhaps the exception of Doyle most of the teams top 5 including clubs number ones beat each other on a regular basis.The only let down in the league through no fault of their own(they are not yet ready for this league) is riders like Smith,Greaves,Clegg and Ayres etc even though they have the odd brilliant ride and beat a top 5 rider which is great to see.

Now if we go down the one big league route all the teams would have to share the top riders share the Championship middle order and reserve riders and then add perhaps 2(a lot not ready yet) National league riders to each of the teams.Losing all the fairly well balanced teams the 2 leagues have now.What sort of racing would you get with such a mix of very different classed riders in each race some would walk most races and you would have some riders trailing at the back.I and I think most fans go to speedway to watch good close competitive racing with teams like these most of that would be lost and i m o a lot more supporters would be lost to the sport as well.

I think a lot of fans want their own team, not one made up of riders from various others, the fact that some riders compete abroad makes much less difference to fans, than seeing the same blokes in two or even three teams here.

That is a very good point ff.

 

I don't think the Supporters would be too bothered if their Riders were riding overseas, as long as it did not interfere with there Team commitments here. It wouldn't bother me.

When I went to Speedway, I wanted to see MY Team, MY Riders who I could identify with. I liked feeling part of the whole Team thing. Since that has, more or less, all gone from the Sport, what is left is a mere shadow of what Speedway used to be.

 

What the Promoters fail to grasp is that half of the pleasure of going to the Speedway was talking with your Riders, socialising with your Riders and you would follow your Team away, recognise Riders who would, if they saw you, give you a wave.

 

Nowadays when Riders come out on to the Track a lot (probably most) don't even look at the Crowd who have paid to come and see them, they just trudge towards their Bikes.

 

That is the way I see it anyway.

 

 

Can you explain how, or when that changed and what it has to do with the rule?

 

At most tracks in the country fans can still talk and socialise with riders – so where in particular does that not apply, what exact promotions no longer grasp this or prevent fans and riders from doing this?

I still attend a few national league meetings at buxton and stoke and go to a few GPs and polish meetings but haven't attended a prem or championship meeting all season unless I've been working there even though I have one on

my doorstep

I no longer attend. My reasons are well documented on here. I don't wish to go through all of the arguments again.

I have still attended this season but my patience in the KLS promotion has been sorely tried since the Stars V Poole "Holdergate" meeting and several unnecessary call offs as well as the recent Wolves " seeing double " debate. I will be going to the final relegation battle V Poole and V Rye House but my heart is not much in it this season. Unless there is significant improvement in how things are run at King's Lynn ( and in the sport in general ) I am unlikely to return next season. But having an opinion about the sport I have followed for over 60 years does not make me a "speedway complainer" - merely not just a mug.

Exactly , I couldn't even tell you which foreign teams any of my riders turn out for , nor do I care .

I think there is a fair number of fans that attend regular are feeling the same way regarding the sport in general,and we can see by the debates on this forum there is not an easy solution.Its along way back for the sport to raise attendance levels at a number of clubs IMO. Which is sad.

As long as my riders don't miss a Glasgow meeting because of it , then they can go and earn money where ever they want .

One big league with a second division of the existing third tier allowing doubling up. Then riders get the same amount of meetings.

An agreed pay scale that is affordable to promoters and if the riders don't like it get another job.Too much tail wagging the dog these days. Chapman was right to give Holder a slap for his arrogance. Anyway it's not top riders that guarantee good racing it's evenly balanced sides. If you want big money Poland's the place.The sport in this country is only professional in that people get paid to do it.In every other respect it's amateur. Rye have got an important meeting at Belle Vue tonight and r/r for their no.1 who's at Peterborough!!! Weeks without a meeting and now all these double headers and running on off nights.I was going to say you couldn't make it up but that's exactly what the 'promoters' do on a daily basis. Rant over!

Tonight's situation with Harris shows up why this cant continue the way it is . Rye chasing a play off place while Peterborough riding for nothing but pride and Harris has to ride in the lesser meeting , that is where we find ourselves now and it cant go on .

I would be happy with that actually - as long as it was written in stone.
