i was a championship fan but I not attending meetings at all cause I can't identify with the "team " that's being served up , 2 ride for Ipswich , 2 ride for Edinburgh and I rides for Sheffield , that's not a team that's a swingers club

Sorry Dean but I presume you were a Wolves supporter that's a Premier league team.

League name changes still confuse me had to check when I wrote my previous post.

If Josh Bates was number one at Sheffield in the second tier, then yes I would be more inclined to go.

The thread seems to be split between those who want 'quality' and those who want integrity and credibility

I don't think one side will ever convince the other, but I'm on the side of integrity and credibility because without them, speedway isn't a sport, it's a circus.

Some people think you need big names but IMO you need evenly matched teams thats all

Everyone should be - for without it you will never bring the old Supporters back, never mind attracting any new ones.

Never a truer word spoken tigerowl.

You get my vote.We have to have slightly lower standard of rider to start with, but that does not mean the racing won't be entertaining.Im sure the standard will rise again just like the old National League did. Then they got "conned'" by British League when they were getting in Sh#t.They divided and conquered and see where we are now!!!!

So why is it that every year, when they lower the points limit and even up team strengths more and more at the expense of quality, the crowds go down?

because of guests, du/dd, bad promotion, bad tracks, bikes too fast and ugly, lack of identifying with team, etc all sorts of things

you just have to deal with them one at a time and getting rid of du/dd would be where I'd start

I'd also limit guests to 1 and only allow a team to use a guest 5 or 6 times in a season - after that they'd just have to cope or get someone else - credibility

I thought crowds were supposed to be up this year?

Are they? Swindon are top of the league this year and I'd say crowds are about the same as last year. Rye House reportedly have larger crowds. Could that be because of an increase in rider quality?

Poole's crowds are reportedly down, as is team quality.

I dunno - why?

Because stronger sides mean larger crowds. Ever since 39.95 crowds seem to have gone down with each weakening year.

I would argue that the 2 things are not related - its all opinions, we'll never know because no one in the UK is going to compete with Polish pay, with Denmark or Sweden being their second choice of league when the Poles introduce that one other league rule.

Well I've read several times that crowds in general are up.

I agree with ch958 and don't think it is due to the weakening of the teams and lack of the so called star riders. What is losing fans is getting continually cheesed off with only having a few of your own team because two of them are riding for another club, made up with anyone who happens to be available plus rider replacement. That and going weeks without a match then the promoters suddenly waking up and realising they have umpteen of them to fit in by early September.

Straight to the heart of the matter as usual Gemini. :t:

Promoters are on a hiding to nothing. The fans want to have a winning team but when White City won the league and every home match by a cricket score the fans stayed away because the racing was boring (having been to most of the meetings I can say it was VERY boring, to the point that I used to keep the score of red and Yellow against Blue and White in the hope that it might be a close score!). Winning the league shut White City.

A few years later and Arena Essex opened and as I was at that time living in Basildon and worked for Chick Woodroffe on the Stock Car promotion I asked for a job that meant I could watch the racing and so spent the season controlling entry to the hospitality suite where the riders partners could enjoy the racing from. Every match was close but Hammers lost more than they won and the fans were unhappy with a team that lost. Personally I thought it was great as the racing was close and the tension in the last two or three heats when it was possible for either side to win was just how I like my racing.

So more doubling-up equally higher crowds?

There could be all sorts of factors involved, the majority opinion on here seems to be against the current levels of doubling up but not everyone going through the turnstiles is on here. I personally know people who don't currently attend because of doubling up and some of the rules in place.
