Teterow Germany Gp Saturday 9th September

Trust me, riders do not care about trophies. Wining a GP has a massive effect on your chance of making next year's series, either through the points you've scored or increasing your chance of a wild card. In addition there's the sponsorship opportunities. And there's your place in history. When there have been 8 different winners in 9 rounds, it no small thing to win a round.

Trophies just gather dust.

Gospeed have been given the budget for the trophies , after "expenses " were taken out ,this is the best they could afford

SOMEONE has told me this morning that you are as nice as pie when posting on Facebook but, Simon, we seem to get your alter ego here're more often than not. Why's that?

Do agree about the trophies however.

FOR the record I'm not a fan of having a SGP in Teterow even after being there in dry, hot, sunny weather last year ... the complete opposite of this year. Conditions there over the weekend were, I'm told, appalling for everyone. Just walking around was tough and unpleasant, let alone riding.

KT and NP had all sorts of technical issues in the commentary box, including frequent loss of power, sound systems not working, etc. And from their position they were unable to see gate 4 at the start of each race. The problem with the cameraman prior to the start of Heat 1 was that the referee couldn't see him and the gate where he intended leaving the track was closed!

However, the track though wet, heavy and difficult certainly wasn't dangerous. And it suited certain engines and not others, which is probably why Zagar on a PJR was so successful and others were not. The big disappointment as far as the championship race is concerned is that Janowski, who either blows hot or cold and not much in-between, lost ground and Woffinden, for all his pre-meeting confidence, struggled.

It wasn't much fun for riders, mechanics, etc coping with the wet conditions, not just on the track, but some like Doyle just get on with it.

We have to remember that most German speedway and grass/longtrack events take place in similar facilities., complete with beer tents, sausages and the like. And the attendance? It was just over 12,500 which ranks pretty high in the general scheme of things.

For all the stick the GP got(i did say it wasn't a good track before a GP was held)i was amazed to see on Facebook a long post copied by the stadium announcer which praised the GP,saying although the person wasn't a motorsport fan he thought it was all top class!!! :o

Which shows that maybe he hasn't been to a better stadium etc,but as a first timer had a totally different view to most here including me

Maybe he enjoyed good corporate hospitality (I assume there was good German bier) and the Monster girls?

For me, the last real World Champion was Tony Rickardsson in 1994

Since then, there have been various winners of Ole Olsen's Flying Circus, now known as the Grand Prix series

They may now be known as World Champions, but to me they are Grand Prix series winners

Nothing could replace the World Final excitement I experienced at Wroclaw (1970), Gothenberg (1977) and Empire Stadium, Wembley, for many years

Don't get me started on F1

Didn't say there weren't any very good GPs

Just preferred World Final night, that's all

I enjoyed the one off world finals, most I saw were at Wembley, the one exception was the last one I seen and that was 1976 in Katowice when PC won it, and its because we, wife and I, wanted to see PC win the world title and we put our money on that year. Thats was a fantastic afternoon and still watch the replays available on You Tube.

Its only since 2013 I started seeing the GP series on TV (may have seen an odd one before that). Went to Cardiff 2013-14-15, and I love the series.

If the world championship went back too a one meeting event I would be very sad, and I think modern speedway would be lacking. Having 15/16 of the worlds top riders racing together 12 times a year appeals to me much better then a one off meeting, as good as they were.

Quite agree. We would go every year to the British, Commonwealth & Overseas Finals, loved those meetings. Would be a mad scramble to find what channel the World final would be on then find a friend who had Sky/Cable and could (VHS) record it for us!

However times have changed and GP series give us the opportunity to see multiple 'world finals' every year.
