King's Lynn V Somerset 7/8/17(£10 Adults)

Recommended Posts

Every few miles, sometimes less, you get large yellow posters along the A149, A10 and I dare say other roads, advertising the next Stock Car/Banger meeting, and it seems such a shame that the same can't be done for speedway.

i Its not done for speedway because no one from the club can be bothered.

There is no contest as far as I'm concerned. As you say TV coverage now is excellent, contrast that with what I endured last Wednesday and I'd be mad to go in person. There is nothing that is better in person. On TV I can hear what's in interviews, I can see who is in an upcoming heat, I can see the racing (if there is any lol) fa better than from the terraces, can see replays, no one blows smoke in my direction , no bored kids creating mayhem and there is just as much atmosphere in my lounge as there is at the stadium. It's a no brainier.

Like you I'd be more than happy to pay per view, and not just Lynn matches. As it is I pay a subscription to BT so will use it.

I have shared the clubs social media stuff on a couple of the social groups sites that I belong to as I know there are lots of folk who used to go "back in the day", I emphasised the only a tenner and before anyone asks didn't give any negative comments at all. So far no one has said they will go but I have tried.

Don't agree with this bit.Normally tv cameras follow the leader.Often there is a batlle for 3rd/4th which you don't often see,or even 2nd,3rd,4th.

In the past that was the case I mean 20 -30 years ago. More recent coverage ( i.e. the past ten years or so ) the key part of most races have been shown or a whole race panorama with the other points placings shown in the follow up.

If you choose to stay in and watch your local team on TV rather than attend and pay your turnstile entrance money, don't ever complain when your local track closes due to falling attendances

past caring to be honest the sport is dead on its feet .

All clubs get a fee for t.v. meetings so broadcasters need good ratings to decide to carry on covering sport.

Bit of a catch 22.

Possibly people are becoming more fickle.

If they add up the cost of getting to the track, entrance money, possibly refreshments, and then the delays with an interval which is generally unnecessary and old hat and drags out the meeting and then on the other side the issues which are beyond the control of the punter that could mean anyone of the foregoing makes it a waste of time, they may think it is a better deal to stay at home and watch it on TV

Other things that may put people off could be any slight doubt that a single black cloud forecast for the start time might mean rain and therefore better call off the meeting just after you enter the stadium or the track is prepared for gate and go merchants who would be better off doing drag racing rather than competitive racing and always the other possibility that the riders may not want want to race or just go through the motions or even refuse to ride because it is dangerous (surely a bike without brakes is dangerous, it is more a question of how a rider manages to use some technique to set the bike up,to suit the conditions and uses some throttle control)

Given the credible and cost saving alternative of sitting at home watching the speedway soap opera unfold, I guess more than few would go for the TV option. Watch it in comfort at home with little of the hassle.

Why has it got to this? Because it is no longer an attractive proposition to go along to a live meeting with all that is so wrong with the sport, presentation, racing and general disdain that promoters and riders have for the paying public. Hopefully it will change, but the question is when?

For us even with the £10 to get in tomorrow night it's the traveling to the track program bite to eat - all in all for the two of us £40 or stay home and watch the same meeting no travel no eating out no program expense, just BT subscription but we'd be paying that anyway- I'd always attend TV meetings at KL but I've got so I can take it or leave it , our money is spent elsewhere sadly

Hey,just looked at 3 forecasts, doesn't seem alot of rain at all,if any.

Depends on how you look at it.

If you're looking at the forecast images they just show cloudy but the information on most shows precipitation at 47%+ from around 1pm - 1am.

That means rain is to be expected but when is a guess

It is a £10 sport but not when it's is televised. £5 tops with kids and OAPs free (any one over 60). Radical maybe, reality yes. What ever way you look at it the product at this level does not lend itself to live television. People might have far more interest if it were highlights and the live meetings promoted so that the 'taster' of highlights attracts the punter to see a live meeting. Dress it up as you like but it is not rocket science, sell thrill seeking highlights, cut and thrust etc. and promote meetings on the programme, give out the fixture list and show where the sport is being held around the country. Do not rely on Nigel and his side kick spouting some crap, show the fixtures on screen, dates, times, track location/ details, not difficult but even this seems to beyond the comprehension of the average promoter to actually do what the word means, promote. Those who want live speedway get this, the sport is seen on T V and with some input from those running meetings, everyone gains/wins. Will it happen, unlikely. Bemoan all you like but the sport needs to take a real hard look at itself and realise that change is needed, not tinkering around the edges.
