Belle Vue V Wolves Mon 24/7/17

Recommended Posts

Hope both smith and bewley are at belle Vue next year, think both could significantly improve their average.

Have to say Jack isn't as exciting as his dad was at the same stage in his career, but seems to be a better gater.

Am sure averages will force at least one change, but hopefully we can keep the nucleus of the side for next year.

Certainly a better gater smudge was not the best, i think Belle Vue should be able and should keep Bewley and Smith in 2018.

Suspect points will dictate needing to let Bjerre or fricke go next season. Or possibly tungate though I expect he will be on a still attractive average.

AND therein lays one of speedway's major issues. No sooner have fans built up a rapport with a rider then they are forced to let him go. If a team wants to keep an unchanged team from one season to another they should be allowed to do so. All this dumbing down (among a multitude of other reasons) is helping to kill British speedway.

It's a difficult one. You don't want the same team winning every year (did Poole do 4 titles in 5 years?) but the continual turnover of riders doesn't allow a bond to be built with the riders. Wolves supporters are lucky in one way as the promotion are loyal to riders Freddie Lindgren for example hasn't ridden for anyone else.

NOT just talking about the winning team. Any team. Should be up to others to aspire to achieve better performances not expect others to come down to their level.

I have posted on various topics that Dan Bewley is the best talent I have seen for many years and I can see him going to the very top, various posters have commented about his speed at Belle Vue and if you have a good motor and with skill you will be ok there, the thing that stands out for me is his speed at Monmore, now I know a few say it's a horror track but if you have throttle control and skill it's not, and you can ride it fast, he rides the bends very fast and carries his speed round the bends without scrubbing off any more speed than is necessary, like Sudden Sam and Freddie especially, sign of a great talent, enjoy him

I was very impressed with him on BT Sports.Loves the big wide BV track. And is fast. Not seen him on the away tracks much.I don't like the small tracks but you are right. Its all about throttle control and not pulling lockers. How old is he 18-19?

Which 2.00 rider would you suggest to replace Smith with?

serious question, how come all teams in the Prem don't have to track a 2 pointer.

Dan turned 18 in May this year

So i introduced a few friends to the sport of speedway at the NSS beginning of last season , and they were getting realy interested ,

Until the stupid rules started kicking in ,

like being allowed to bring Woffinden back for the Play offs ( dont blame Wolves for that BTW }

Then not being able to accomodate Zagar , R Worrall , Joe Jacobs this season , and now the probability of Bjerre or Fricke riding elsewhere next year

I cant see my friends being speedway fans for much longer if im honest :(

No wonder the sport in this country is on its knees

Your 'friends' must have been really annoyed when Tungate was brought into the Belle Vue side then?

You could have accommodated Worrall and Jacobs had you wanted too.

Zagar Worrall and Jacobs could have been accomodated at the expense of others yes ,

But thats not my point , constantly changing teams does the sport no favours at all ,especially in the eyes of 'new' fans

As no affinity towards individual riders is allowed to grow , already talking about losing Bjerre or Fricke for 2018

Stupid rules kicked in ?

Speedway has had a points limit for nearly 40 years, closer to 50 if you count rider control. Many other sports now have a salary cap which, in effect, does exactly the same thing.

No doubt your friends would be happy if we did away with it and one team signed a side far stronger than all the others.

I realise some kind of points limit as to be in place , but the point I'm trying to make is , to the newcomers to our sport having to release riders because their average is to high (owing to them being successful) looks ridiculous

Possibly Bjerre and Fricke going next year ?

i would assume only 1 would go?. dont think Aces will be too much over the points limit. downgrading Bjerre to Tai might fit?

Maybe BV could replace Kenneth with Lasse and hope WestGordon1884s mates don't realise that they have a Bjerre for a Bjerre.

Weirdly, when I explain the points limit to people they seem to like the idea of trying to stop one team just spending the most to sign the top 7 riders. When I explain about it's about signing 7 improving riders and not just the 7 best riders it goes down well.

And team can keep the same 1-7 Coventry won the KOC in 2006, the same 7 started 2007, they did make a like for like change that season but that was out of choice. They won the league, cup and Craven Shield that season.

BV could have just dropped Zagar this winter but still kept the other 6, that was their choice.

Exactly.

There were no 'friends' in this instance, just someone with a beef over Wolves signing Woffinden last season.. but strangely, no problem with signing Tungate.

It was seen as quite different to the normal team changes made by most teams during a season.

Belle Vue fans accepted that what Wolves did in bringing in Woffinden was within the rules. It wasn't the making of a change in the team that caused them to feel that it was morally wrong but that Woffinden was on an average which did not reflect his current ability coupled with believing that he was just using British speedway because his other commitments were drying up.

Personally, I can't pretend that I liked to see the UK being used in this way but accepted the reality that many teams would have done the same given an opportunity to bring him in. Obviously, those in charge of the sport were concerned that a similar situation shouldn't happen this year and changed the rules.

Hypocrisy in the extreme.

Woffinden's average was based upon a FULL season of racing. Entirely accurate and indeed he performed to a similar average after signing.

Yet you have no issue with signing Tungate, on an average well below his ability based upon less than half a season with much of it spent riding in the No 1 spot.
