lucifer sam Posted July 21, 2017 Report Share Posted July 21, 2017 SCORPIONS SEEK REPEAT RESULT HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to defeat high-flying Glasgow Tigers for the second time in 2017, when the two clubs meet at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5.30pm). Back in April, Scorpions pulled off a stunning 47-43 victory over the side that many consider the favourites for this year’s SGB Championship. Both sides are due to be at full strength on Sunday. It marks Scunthorpe’s first home fixture for 16 days, and it’s the first home meeting since skipper Michael Palm Toft has returned to No 1 in Scorpions’ line-up. Scorpions’ promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Our previous win after Glasgow was definitely one of our best performances of the season, and we’d love to be able to defeat them again, because they are a quality side. “Our form has been up-and-down in recent weeks, but the one big plus is how well we rode in the last meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, when we defeated Newcastle by 54-39. “That was an excellent performance, and we need to bring that form into Sunday’s meeting, rather than our recent away form. “We may not be able to reach the top four, but we continue to strive to win every match we take part in, and that will be no different on Sunday”. Scunthorpe are hoping for a bumper crowd on Sunday. The meeting comes a day after the British Grand Prix at Cardiff, and a large quantity of Glasgow supporters are expected to drop in on their way back home from the Millennium Stadium. Godfrey adds: “We’re expecting the Tigers to bring a good following of supporters with them, on their way back to Scotland following the British Grand Prix in Cardiff. “I’m reliably informed by the Glasgow promoters that there will be a couple of coachloads here and I’m sure there will be some Tigers fans travelling independently as well. “We’ll endeavour to entertain them with some fabulous racing on the best race track in the country. We hope they enjoy their evening – except regarding the result, of course!” There are 21 heats of action in total on Sunday, including a six-heat second half Northern Junior League match between Halifax Dukes and Ashfield Giants. kermitfrog Posted July 23, 2017 Report Share Posted July 23, 2017 I hope for a Tigers win but so much inconsistancy within the side that I don't know...Scunthorpe is a track I've never been too but I've watched hundreds of great races on video, and it looks to be a track with many racing lines and many ways in which you can pass. This makes me worried especially about Richard Lawson who in recent meetings I've found it hard to watch him as when he sits in 2nd or 3rd place he just can't pass at all. Lawson was the reason that we lost at Scunthorpe the previous time with him only scoring 6 points. Worrall has also just hit a little dip in form recently so hopefully he can shake it off and get back to his good ways. He top scored last time at Scunthorpe also! The last of our top 3 to comment on is Summers, who I feel that with him not being in the number one position, he might do a whole heap better! Last time at EWR he scored 8 points with 1 win, so I would expect him to score around 10+1 today! Dan Bewley seemed to struggle a bit in the first half of the season in his opening heat, but now with him being at No.4, I think he'll do a whole lot better, and even if he scores 5/6 points I'd be happy! Nike Lunna seams to be having his best season so far in the UK with his average including bonus points over 7 now! Scunthorpe is Lunna's former track so I think that experience could really help him once again to have a cracking meeting! Down at reserve is another place where we could win or loose this meeting! Tom Perry had a cracking 2016 experience at Scunthorpe scoring Paid 15 from 6 rides in 1 meeting, however only scored 3+1 in his outing in April in Glasgow colours! Jack Smith is also kicking on well so good luck to him!The team have all changed from April in terms of form ect. So good luck to the boys, I hope in many areas you can prove me wrong! Not sure when our run of bad luck is gonna end... but best wishes to Lewi Kerr, hope his wrist injury isn't a bad one. As for the meeting... was ok, not one of the best.. but four or five great races made it entertaining. Also why give him a tac ride when he hadn't scored in his first two rides? I was surprised. At best it was a huge gamble. Good meeting, with several cracking races - the best probably Summers brilliant last to first win in heat 13. Glasgow were never really in trouble, but the score line flatters a bit. A big word of credit for Rob Godfrey. It would have been very easy to postpone this meeting in the face of weather reports but he held his nerve and it went ahead. Thanks to a large collection of Glasgow supporters, the attendance seemed to me to be actually slightly up on normal.
