Panthers V Sheffield 14/07

Recommended Posts

Next season Ged needs to build a strong team.

No sentiment attached to it.

Those were the mistakes that caused Panthers season to end early.

Ostergaard loss of form cost Peterborough a bucket load of points. Signed through sentiment

S. Lambert 1-5 no form whatsoever cost Peterborough a bucket load of points. Signed on an average he wasn't going to achieve

Signing Hall for a couple of meetings was ridiculous more points thrown away with that decision. Guy should have retired 2 years ago

Letting L. Bjerre go to Sheffield on a 6.44 average was another ridiculous decision. One of the Bargains of the season.

The list just goes on and on.

Add in Kenneth Hansen and PB's acquired reputation for dispensing with riders, it may be harder than ever to recruit next season as riders think twice about signing.

Great win for the Tigers, puts us right back into the driving seat for a Play off place.

Also great to see we lead from the start to finish of the meeting, and we beat Peterborough in all departments.

Well done Sheffield you deserved your win, best all round team performance from opposition I've seen at the showground this season. Panthers were outgated outwitted and carrying a couple of riders I would have expected better from but I take nothing away from Tigers they put on an excellent performance and were very good value for there efforts. Georgie Woods looks an excellent prospect. Although not scoring he certainly didn't disgrace himself.

Doolan was worse than rubbish. Would be interested to know if he was on points money, or a guaranteed fee ? Didn't think we could win after 6 races, as we had 3 riders who couldn't beat an egg, never mind a tiger !!!!!!

anyone riding for 'a fee', and not money earned should be told to jog-on IMO

unless they are really cheap, of course ;)

Providing the Swindon fixture at Belle Vue wasn't a re- arranged meeting I believe Swindon have first call on his services.

The fact he signed for Swindon at the last minute didn't overly sit well with me at the time when they were given priority.

..and yeah well done Sheffield..that's ended any hope of Panthers making the play offs.

To be honest it was only a slim chance that they could have turned it around and given themselves a shot at the play- offs anyway , losing at home for the third time has totally confirmed they will be fighting to be one of the best also rans.

Focus on the cups and the pairs/fours. However to do anything in the cup further changes will be needed to beat the best

Looked a good call, Kevin scored 11+1 for Berwick at the Showground three weeks ago.

I just had to check that because I remember him looking way past his best and poor. My recollection was correct. That was 6 rides including a poor 4 point TR. One heat win keeping Ostrich & Starke at bay on a slick track, not too difficult, and didn't beat anything else significant.

I can't see how Panthers could make changes that would improve the team when they are already 3+points over the limit . Maybe they need to focus on next season and try altering the track shape to make it harder for opposition looks like it's working for Ipswich.

Nothing wrong with the shape, it's inconsistent preparation (too often slick one line as it was this evening) and the poor standard of riders we have to put up with these days that is the problem. The riders (well some of them) just not fast enough and can't cope with a decent circuit, and we have to be a 5 or 6 man team all too often due to reserves who shouldn't be in the league in the first place.

I feel for Peterborough here. They signed BWD when all EL teams were complete and so knew they had priority over him. Then Swindon were told they'd messed up so were able to swoop in and basically allowed to steal BWD from Peterborough. Doesn't seem fair to me. Should be parent club or the club that signs the rider first.

Rathbone said the same in interview. Think that he added (sound was up and down and crap all night) that they checked on clashes and there didn't seem to be a problem but then fixture clashes suddenly appeared out of the woodwork (can't see how that was unexpected?) then Panthers were knackered. The system doesn't seem fit for purpose.

He also said that there was agreement that if there were any clashes that Peterborough would get priority - which Swindon reneged on before the ink was dry on BWD contract Edited by Noodles

That's not a commitment Swindon could give, the rules lay down the order of priority and that cannot be altered by agreement.

Feel for Ged..he looks like a broken man. The difference was they booked Shane's, we booked Doolan..and Lambo not riding.

And why was Kurtz allowed to cover for Bates!!!.

trouble is when you have riders like hall on speed dial you'll never get anywhere , panthers should have gone down guest route for lambert used shanes (when available) and carr , not impressed with the hiding of ostergaard (who shouldn't be anywhere near team next season) at no4 most of the season either , the only blessing this season is watching holder on a regular basis
