Not Enough Meetings

Recommended Posts

Even regular fortnightly meetings would be ok, as for some weekly may be unaffordable. Not this one home meeting in two months, and five in fourteen days nonsense.

Do you fancy 7-10 meetings a year, plus play-offs for half the teams?

As long as they're frequent (every 2 weeks) yes, and maybe it would mean the season could be run April-September and get rid of the meetings in March and October which do the sport absolutely no favours at all because the weather is still usually both cold and wet.

I would agree.Football manages ok with a home game every two weeks. To say speedway needs to be every week is totally wrong and generally not accepting how modern speedway runs. You can also get a whole load of sporting events that don't run that often, but people still turn up in their droves.F1 or as you can see on tv at the moment Wimbledon tennis.Because it isn't on every week doesn't mean peple forget all about tennis ..........

Do you not think it is already too late?

Probably

Almost certainly if we expect to see speedway in something like the form it is now - five years on of course nothing will have changed and few tracks will be viable. Semi - pro in some form as in the "slump" days ( of speedway ) at a few places. Who is the next much vaunted saviour? I wonder what they really do talk about in BSPA meetings? Not the views of supporters I am sure. The Emperor's new clothes I imagine.

Guess it explains why speedway crowds have declined over the years. The few months break over the winter are the cause and fans have forgotten what speedway is and have found something else to do.........

Football teams only play a home match every two weeks which I presume is every other Saturday. so who are playing all these mid week matches that are on satellite or are they all playing away . Not really correct is it

Pretty much planned out as a game every two weeks for the vast majority of teams. You will get some teams who are in Europe and have more games, but they aren't that well planned as nobody can say how far in any given competition a team will go.So football fans can be sponataneous and turn up on a tuesday, wednesday or thursday, plus a lot of home games might well be on a sunday. So not really a regular night/day,which was one of the arguments earlier, that some clubs haven't raced much on their 'usual' night.....So it seems football fans can turn out on different days and not on a set basis why can't speedway fans?

HE used to but not sure he does now

I thought I'd read in a recent Speedway Star that he does do them, but I could be wrong of course.

Edit............Sorry just seen the post from beefy keefy that confirms Colin does them.

It used to be a weekly sport, now reduced to occasional, mainly because nobody could be bothered to save it....

It has become a farce...my own club Somerset haven't had a meeting home or away for three weeks. That's if you don't count the 'select juniors' challenge match, which was so boring I went home after 7 heats.

1 home meeting league meeting this month as well. :-(

Football season is upon us soon, festivals etc during August...can see my money being spent elsewhere tbh.

Will do the Pairs...can't be bothered with the GP, I find the whole thing rather ugly.

Should stop comparing speedway with football... at least professional football. It is more akin to the Sunday afternoon stuff, on the local playing fields, teams often uncertain of what players will or won't turn up.

It is a brilliant spectacle... but its rules are wild west.

Workington have over twenty matches to fit in over the next few months some of which have not been arranged yet, they have had some rain offs but even so it seems most years we are playing catch up with other teams in the League.

I'm not blaming anyone in particular just the system as a whole, Gps, SWC and rider availabilty does not help.

I found myself (through work) over in Cumbria on two recent Saturdays. No speedway at Workington on either occasion. I'll be over there again this Saturday. Comets are at home. But it's going to tip down all day...

Speedway isn't football. Totally different markets and traditions.
