God Sakes Jenga , you gave me a wee fright when I read the title of the thread . Then it dawned on me you meant Sheffield lol

we all know that someone in the massive crowd will spill it out @ wucky and tell the whole gathering the world cup scores as they go .

i remember john walsh telling the fans the result of a G.P. over the pa system ... long live the art of ignorance !

with hoggy not being there , who is on the mike , playboy steve .. i BELIEVE lol.

ayres withdrawn from redcar v the borrowers meeting . is it going pear shaped for Saturday after a big off at brum last night and one tonight .?

If Sheffield turn up in the front five the deciding factor will be whose reserves can fill the loose third places and turn shared heats into advantages?

Fully expecting a tight match and as we're bound to be rusty after our "summer break" :D a narrow win by any margin will do for me!! :t:

Many congratulations to Sheffield. When the chips were down, they wanted this far more than Workington with Bates, Grajczonek, Howarth & Bjerre all pulling off race winning passes in the last few heats and if Sheffield make the play offs they will look on this result as a major one. The way I saw it, Tigers had the stomach for a fight, Comets didn't.

The last 4 or 5 races were pretty good (mainly thanks to Sheffield) but what we saw before that was mediocre at best.

It wasn't helped by poor control of the meeting. It wasn't Workington's fault that the first 3 races took 45 minutes or that after 85 minutes we had had only 10 races (a lot of track work was undeniably necessary on a hot, windy evening) but to take an interval then was stupid. Quite simply, people had been standing around long enough. We then had the bizarre sight of spectators waiting for the off and riders at the pit gate only to be unable to start because the track staff weren't in position and there was a further delay until they were.

Things then got worse as we had to have a sun break after one race. Most fans accept them, but surely Workington knew that was a possibility given the weather conditions ? What should have happened is that there was no planned interval but it was taken if and when the sun required it.

People accept intervals (in many cases, very grudgingly) and sun breaks. But not both in the same meeting.

I have made no secret of the fact that I have a lot of time for what Laura has tried at Derwent Park. However, you just have to avoid the unnecessary delays that took place last night.

Disappointing result, thought it would be tight but we'd be good enough to nick it?

Doesn't read like a meeting to remember judging from the previous page so, pleased I missed it really, maybe we should have a look in the sales and buy some big blackout curtains to hang off the end of the stand, might help us out a bit when the "sun's out"!! :D

Too many delays does nothing for the paying public and when your crowd is down and atmosphere even further it just doesn't sell well when you keep stopping?

Perhaps when we start running more regular meetings things will improve and we can at least get challenging for a play off spot, a lot to do tho and we may be too far back even now but, we have to keep trying, someone could slip up?? :t:;)

the gaps in the fixture list dont help workington riders and are not really race sharp/fit .

is it time to alter our day the home meetings take place . maybe a monday/tuesday/wednesday so that we arfe not tied up with all the other speedway events that cause us and others long gaps in our fixture lists .

its time to put thing back into control of clubs and their riders .

sweden or other countries run mid week , so why cant we be the club that starts a trend and runs mid week ?

there are very few travelling fans that go to away meetings due to cost and any fans that want to visit workington are local anyhow . no more southern teams like there used to be .

going weeks on end without a home meeting is killing our sport in the uk .

there will be a solution to the problem , just got to find it .

the bspa/scb continue to wear blinker and are killing the fans and the sport off that feeds them ..

NO MORE LONG GAPS IN THE FIXTURES PLEASE !

Speaking to Comet Dan last night the Comets planning permission conditions are pretty tight. They can't just race when they want to.

I know that there have been a number of attempts to bring other clubs to Derwent Park and the promotion are conscious both of the gaps and a possible backlog of meetings. It has, however, been difficult to get anyone to come, especially on a day other than Saturday.

Sounds to me like this is beyond the promotions control.
