William 'ginger' O'Beirne is still quite well known in Dublin where he ran a popular motorbike shop and also motorbike training school,so got a lot of bikers started.Sadly died a couple of years back now

I would have put Paddy Hammond, the former Norwich and Yarmouth rider who also rode at Shelbourne, ahead of Des Monson in the list shown.

I endorse your revised rating suggestion to bring in Paddy Hammond.

Am I right in that Des Monson had second-half rides at Wimbledon about 1953?

Dom "McGinty" Perry was one of my mum's all-time favourite riders.

Another name I remember from the early 70's was George Fitzgerald; he was one of the top names at Shelbourne, but I am unable to gauge the abilities of the Irish other than Dom Perry.

There's nothing in my programmes to show that he rode at Wimbledon, but he did make one appearance for Wimbledon at Shelbourne in 1951.

That could be the answer BL65. It was only something I had a vague memory about in regard to Des Monson.

Surely the best Irish born rider must be Eric French (mainly New Cross) who was good enough to ride for England in test matches during 1949 - 50.

You are spot on again cyclone. 'A forgotten' man so to speak - Eric French s generally regarded as being English but was of Irish decent. As I have commented elsewhere on other threads, akin to what happened to Gordon McGregor (Scotland) and Roy Bester (South Africa) who were both forgotten in similar threads.
