Ipswich V Berwick 15/6/17

Recommended Posts

Today's meeting has been a quandary for me since it was announced as not only is it my brother's 50th birthday today but youngest son also goes into hospital early tomorrow morning and is (to say the least) extremely stressed about it (those with offspring who have autism will understand that this is not the 'normal' run of the mill stress). On the other hand, I feel beholden to go due to my position on Updates.

Looking at those not going, I have no choice though as they will all want to watch/are relying on the updates and I hate letting people down!

I get plenty of stick , mainly from the Poole mob, about picking and choosing meetings.

I finish work at 6pm if im lucky and live about an hour away from Foxhall.

The cost for me to go to a home meeting is around £50 and if the match doesnt look like it will be good then i dont go.

I always go to the first and last meetings of a season but other then that i pick and choose. So far ive been to Glasgow, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

I may well go to the Workington match if only to see our boys v Cookie. Plus Im holiday when Edinburgh and Glasgow come back again.

If its a choice between rushing to leave work, not seeing my kids, and spending £50 then a lot of times i wont do that.........and a home match v Berwick means i would rather be at home with my family

Sue of course you have a choice - family always trumps speedway.

Presumably Mike Bacon will be doing his twittering so don't have a conscience or anything about missing this.

And if anyone even thinks about moaning then let them start doing some updates.

You do so much for the non-attending public already.

ippo could get a shock if this makeshift side does something and grabs a win/draw or even grabs a point !

luv an underdog .

cum on the bendits ..

Are you forgetting that Berwick have Alfie Bowtell, Ben Morley and someone call RR in the team?

If Smiler had 15 rides they might get close to a point I suppose.

as peter waite used to say , this is speedway , anything can happen 1 . looks like its down to the watches to turn it on and get a really good score from this . otherwise they will be called a useless bunch of ........

Happen to think this might be closer than you all think...Masters, Doolan and Howe are all good riders and Morley & Bowtell could be a match for our reserves, whilst I think the match should be ours it might not be the whitewash you predict.

Like someone said that race with Masters Vs Schlein was a cracker.

The promoter's can't win, cancel the meet and they get slammed, put it on an you all moan, weather's too cold, weather's too hot, maybe you'd rather watch a load of men kick a ball around and pay a fortune for it !

If you've ever tried riding one of these machines maybe you'd marvel at the fact just staying on one at high speed is a miracle, what about all the guys ending in hospital each season trying to entertain us..........

I'm not saying cancel it, I'm just not going cos it doesn't look very appealing to me. Add in to that lack of good racing recently and I'm well put off. Its like going shopping and something is on the shelf to be purchased, if the ingredients don't look great and it's packaging has been below par, I choose not to buy it.

Everyone has a choice.. .. tonight is

£16 for a below standard product and little entertainment.

It's like going out and paying £3 a pint and getting 7 pints or going to Asda and buying 3 cases of beer for £21. But having to sit at home

If the pub has a live band and free darts and pool not so bad

Its speedway, anything can happen, I still think its cheap compared with most live sports, especially when you factor in the real cost of racing.

Everyone's saying put a great team together, they put a great team together and now everyones saying the opposition aint competitive enough...like a say, can't win

It's mainly the on track entertainment me.

Its been much much lacking this season. Just look at your own post, you mentioned one good race.

The person responsible for promoting the ipswich witches brand has told you to stay at home lol?????

All the racings been pretty good for me, but that race was exceptional, but then maybe I understand what goes into preparing and getting a bike going let alone passing anyone !

The racing has been pretty spread out, with some riders struggling to turn their bikes.

I believe I have a rough idea about what it takes to prepare a bike ready for racing..and the hours of commitment needed.

When you're sat watching sometimes with an ex witch who raced at the same venue in front of crowds of 10,000 usually with the same team mates week on week, who turns around and comments on how slow and spread out races are and how poor the sport is and has stopped going himself, that says alot

Pleased you got something out of it.

But the average Joseph Le Public probably doesn't or care much about the preparation or workings of a speedway bike and just wants to see what for him looks like entertaining racing.

Yes it was a decent hard race between Smiler and Rory though it seemed to me it was because Ricky got stuck in some deep stuff in turn 2 which allowed Rory to make his move on Sam, much to Sam's surprise, and Sam was always in the wrong place/ on the wrong line thereafter.

Generally though every race was decided by turn 2 lap 1, just like most races seem to be across the country nowadays.

Surely the sport should be more for us uneducated masses rather than the petrol/spanner heads?
