Big Al
N.Pedersen in the twilight of his career (or even at the end), NKI starting to look a spent force in the GP's......there doesn't seem to be a new wave of Danes ready to take up the mantle. Jepsen Jensen, Mikkelsen, Bech, ....they all promised a lot, but seem to have lost their way. Is the once-great power on the wane, as Poland marches ever onwards? It can't be good for this to be happening, can it?
MattK
The are certainly not the force they used to be, although I'm not sure that they have gone backwards as much as Poland make vast strides. It will be interesting to see who gets picked for the Danish World Cup team. Presumably NKI, Madsen, Kildemand and MJJ?
iris123
Mentioned this a few times over the years.I wondered about the lack of talent coming through just at the time Bech and Michesen were about 17.Phillip Rising told me on here that Erik Gundersen said the next generation are even better than them.I wondered out loud, but of course Phillip is a journalist of reputation,o he must be right.Fact is,as a regular to Danish junior events at the time,i really was worried at the lack of good riders Now some years after the actual numbers of Danes entering junior speedway has dropped alarmingly...........They will probably just like the rest of us(apart from Poland)have to rely on the odd good to very good rider coming through now and again.Saying that they have a couple of decent youngsters at the moment.Mads Hansen,Frederik Jacobsen,Jason Jörgensen.... Jonas Jeppesen. Andreas Lyager,Frederik Jacobsen etc. Certainly they are in a far better position than their neighbours and rivals Sweden !! The White Knight
They say these things go in cycles. I wonder when Great Britain's next cycle comes along? We've waited a long time since the Seventies.

THANKS for the dig. As you yourself put it, Erik Gundersen said... so it was his opinion not mine.i Unfortunately other than Poland and possibly Australia there aren't any youngsters coming through which will have a major effect on international speedway including the SGP and SWC in the not too distant future. The Swedes have no one, nor the USA., nor Slovenia or indeed Russia or Slovakia. There are no longer the superstars to inspire young boys to become speedway riders. The kids of today have a million other things to aspire to, earn more money and considerably less dangerous. I know the FIM are looking at setting up academies but the horse may have bolted. speedibee
making your way in British speedway is no fun at all , it costs far too much and the fun is drained out of it by jumped up nododies and Billy no mates , thinking they are king of the world and pushing kids to take risks they wouldn't dream of taking themselves for a couple of hours a week

Just keeping practising after meetings, no competitive speedway until when?
Triple.H.
Apologies for taking this slightly off topic I've just read that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has been awarded the Knights Cross of The Order of Dannebrog. This is a Danish Knighthood So have any of the countries speedway riders been honoured in this way or OBE etc if the Danes also have those type of awards
Mr Snackette
Of course, Ole Olsen was a contestant on "Vild med Dans" a few years back. I can't think of a single British rider in the last 30 years, who would have a high enough public profile to receive a similar invitation in the UK! speedibee
What do you suggest then? Just keeping practising after meetings, no competitive speedway until when? here's my suggestion , kids should start out practising , and also ride in the junior classes at amateur meetings , then when they are sufficiently skilled and comfortable , should join the British youth championship (Competitive racing in meetings with kids of similar age and ability ) these meetings are all at weekends not interfering with school or Their main sponsors at this point , mum and dad's work , Once they are 15 and not before , they should be riding in MDL, NJL,or SDL on 500ccc bikes , competitive racing in a structured team atmosphere , This final step of course ,will require a massive change of attitude by the promoters ,SCB and BSPA , because at the moment all 3 leagues are being treated as another income stream by the BSPA , and as if it's something nasty the promoters have trodden in , all premiership and championship clubs should have a team in one or other league , where curfew may be a problem ,run the junior league event before the main match , junior leagues are subject to all the rules and a few extra regulations of professional leagues , yet are treated as some sort of sideshow ,to be cancelled at a whim of track staff or any other reason , that has to stop , these are the stepping stones to the national league and beyond and need to be shown the same respect as the leagues they are feeding , then we might see some future mainstays of british speedway coming through , not getting to 17 and quitting the sport Apologies for taking this slightly off topic I've just read that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has been awarded the Knights Cross of The Order of Dannebrog. Triple.H.
Triple H was actually asking if any of the Danes had been honored in their own country. At least someone understood the question But why not see if any riders from any country have been given awards

iris123
Great selection of Medals there iris. I'd say he deserved a Danish award more than Lars Ulrich,no matter how good his music is
