14/6/17 Rye House V Belle Vue

Recommended Posts

They probably did- don`t forget GB had the magnificent allocation of 2 places- with Chris Harris managing to get in when another country gave up a place.

I think we were harshly treated then! Harris was fortunate then to be nominated ahead of Lambert and Worrall. I hope he does well.

I'd take King over Kurtz around Rye.

Kurtz scored 16 from 5 (including a tactical win) last time at Rye with Poole

King scored 6 from 5 with Leicester

It certainly is. Belle Vue have had hardly any matches in May and now have two away in four days in June when the GP qualifiers are scheduled. Surely the fixture planners must have realised that the few top riders remaining in the UK would more than likely be entering the GP qualifying process and schedule around those dates. As it is Aces will be missing Bjerre at Rye House and both Fricke and Cook at Leicester. Three mates and I had planned to go to Leicester this Saturday from Lancashire, but as soon as we knew this we're now not bothering. With admissions, programmes and some food & drink no doubt we'd have spent £100 between us at the stadium - so it wouldn't take too many to stay away for a lot of potential income to be lost due to idiotic fixture planning.

You could argue that this takes a bit of pressure off King and puts a bit on Kurtz. If King scores, say, around 9 then Rye House fans ought to be delighted given King's score for Leicester - and it might be easier for King to do that that for Kurtz to emulate the 16 he scored for Poole. Aces fans won't be very chuffed if Kurtz ends up scoring only 5 or 6.

Me and my lad were also going to go as I have a rare weekend off..

Not paying to watch a select meeting...

With admission, programmes, food and a few drinks Leicester would have had around £60 off me...

Reaps what it sows Speedway, plenty of potential fans out there if it was ever ran properly.

Maybe one day this will dawn on those who run the sport and they will start doing so..?

When Poole were at Rye earlier this season, Kurtz scored 16. KIng managed 6 for Leicester.

Echo, echo, echo...

Hadn't noticed that in fairness. That's one of King's poorest visits I'd imagine however.

Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Latvia and Slovenia all received more spots than us. Despite the sport being in a pretty poor position here these days only Poland, Sweden, Denmark and perhaps Australia should be receiving more spots than us.

Stupidity from the promotion arranging the fixture on a off night before a GP qualification that's been in the diary for many, many months.

The sport just doesn't help itself with this sort of ineptitude. Weakened teams and missing riders just pisses fans off.

Not good from the Rye promotion that they didn't book Kurtz before Belle Vue either.

It happens so often you can only assume that those running the sport have effectively 'given up'...

They must know attendances are affected. They must know meetings such as this are 'Mickey Mouse'. They must know these type of meetings can't be taken seriously in a professional sports context.

Yet they still run them...

Strange world they live in..

Must be living in the 'speedway bubble' that makes successful business people take leave of their gut instinct business senses....

British Speedway once again a joke. No speedway for ages at Rye then we ride on a dodgy off night without the number one attraction.

Fair play to Chris Harris for wanting to do the GP's but the possibility that he may have to go to a qualifier has been in the diary for ages but we still think its a great idea to run on a Wednesday night. Potentially the crowd could have been the worst so far but the only saving grace is the extreme drought of racing at Rye. Then another ridiculously long wait (Over a month) until the next proper meeting (I won't watch a challenge match against a made up side that no longer exists) so the powers to be seemingly don't have a clue

As for the choice of guests we seem to be expert at awful choices. I hope Danny does to well but King for Harris really?

When this meeting was planned I wouldn't be surprised if it was assumed Harris wouldn't be doing the gp qualifiers this season.

Belle Vue probably hadn't signed KB and originally Cook didn't seem to have a place in the qualifiers with Lambert getting the nod ahead of him. That meant a worst case of only one away team heat leader missing, which was probably not much of an issue to the home promotion, and given a team only needs around 52 points to finish in the top four, any away meeting isn't really worth getting that bothered about.

As it has worked out Cook will be there but why plan it on an off night in the first place? It seem odd given the comments from some home fans about the lack of fixtures before and after?

Who'd be a fixture planner, it must be an impossible task?

He wasn't, until nominated ahead of Lambert and Worrall to fill an extra place that came up.

Not really sure why because of the guest situation but we're coming down for this later so I've got an important question. Have the fish and chips improved?

They've improved a bit on last year's but still not as good as they were a few years ago. On Saturdays we have an ice cream van so if that's there tonight you could always try that in the heat we have at present. We're just hoping they water the track otherwise it will be fish & chips covered in shale (lol) Hope you enjoy the meeting.
