The respected DEFUNCT SPEEDWAY TRACKS website run by John Skinner has this all-too-brief reference to speedway in Burnley in the 1920s. Does any BSF member have more information about the track please?

http://www.defunctspeedway.co.uk/Burnley.htm

Open licence 1928

EDTL 1929 but withdrew around 1st July (last league match against Leicester on 29th June which was abandoned after 3 heats)

Their league record was Home 1-0-0, Away 3-0-1 (the defeat was a thumping at White City Manchester).

Last meeting date available was on the 6th July - an open event headlined by the Golden Helmet and Flying Nine events

1929 rider list includes Frank Charles, Arthur, Fred & Cyril Wilcock, Joe Abbott, Ginger Lees, Johnny Lund, Ernie Ingham, Billy Howard and L G Martin (a good looking line up).

Let me know if you want a copy of the 1929 file from the Speedway Researcher (from before the website went down)

I understand the reason for the closure was poor crowds.
