Guest compost
Hi Just working through the 1937 season and realised that Norman Parker doesn't get mentioned. Anyone got any idea what happened to him that year ? I guess a long term injury from 1936 as he rode in both of 1936 and 1938 (and other seasons). Thanks
Guest
The LONDON SPEEDWAYS website names Norman Parker as being in the 1937 Harringay team squad as follows: HARRINGAY: Jack Parker, Bil Pitcher, Norman Parker, Les Wotton, jack Ormston, Dicky Smythe, Alec Statham, Billy Dallison, Bert Jones, Stew Fairbairn, Lloyd Goffe, Syd Griffiths, Jim Boyd, Clem Mitchell, Frank Goulden. I do realise that while Norman Parker is named in this 1937 Harringay team squad it may be only a list of their retained riders rather than those who actually appeared in the team. Additionally, I also looked on the SPEEDWAY RESEARCHER in regard to Harringay for the 1937 season but unfortunately they are one of the many clubs currently affected by the unfortunate technical problems that are currently affecting that website. Nor is Norman Parker's career currently detailed on the A-Z SPEEDWAY website. Edited June 8, 2017 by Guest

Guest compost
Newspaper reports from 1938 state that he missed the previous season due to an arm injury. Thanks HertsRacer, pretty much as I thought (there was no mention on the Speedway Researcher files for 1937 of him).
HertsRacer
Thanks HertsRacer, pretty much as I thought (there was no mention on the Speedway Researcher files for 1937 of him). Glad to help. There is a good story attached to Parker's injury. When he returned in 1938, the insurance company refused to cover him against riding accidents as they claimed his fractured left arm had not properly healed. This was disputed, and in the end a compromise was reached in that they provided full cover for any injuries sustained except for any relating to the part of his previously damaged arm.
