Halifaxtiger
This deserves a thread on its own : https://www.facebook.com/groups/198832456794185/permalink/1668989229778493/ Absolutely brilliant yet so simple and hardly difficult. A tiny act of customer care having a huge effect and once again it is Isle Of Wight that set the standard.
ChaosTheory22
Great work from the Island promotion. Other clubs could learn so much from their standards. These guys work tirelessly to ensure satisfaction. Keep it up warriors You really do set the bar. Hope your team can replicate the effort. Good luck for rest of season to Island riders especially newbies Conner & Kelsy
iand
The new promotion at Plymouth of Laurence Rogers and Mark Phillips have been very open, frank and honest with people on the Plymouth Speedway Forum and seem very genuine in their responses and willing to help where possible. Quite refreshing in today's world.
East End Fan
I keep reading about how great the IOW promoters are, so they must be just that..Does anyone know how many people attend the meetings they promote ?

TMW
Plymouth only had 325 spectators last week Not bad considering the forecast. The question was about the IoW. 325 is not a paying crowd, if you can call it a crowd. 325 came out considering the forecast ? I'd say that is pretty good
barrybishop
Hi, You make a very valid point about crowd size - without it of course we have no speedway. Martin and I monitor everything we do, and this of course includes the crowd size. Most importantly for us is the comparison with the previous seasons number and that they are on the increase. I am proud to say so far we can confirm this as being true for 2017 but it is early days. We are, at them moment, very reliant upon the tourist season and sponsorship but this cannot detract from us having the need for well attended speedway meetings outside of the holiday season - otherwise it would make more sense to just run open meetings during the holidays. With the fantastic sponsorship that we received this year our target is not only to break even but to use this sponsorship to further grow our crowd sizes. We have invested in a lot more marketing across the island so we will monitor this carefully. We are both realists and in order to survive we must break even, Martin and I are not millionaires, we are hardworking normal people who had the chance to live the dream and be speedway promoters and we love it. We do our best because this reflects on our fans, sponsors and the speedway community. We make so many sacrifices to run the club, you cannot imagine, but we hope that these are recognised and that people continue to embrace the Warrior Way, continue to want to see the Warriors and our sponsors to continue to believe in the way the we run speedway and the show the we put on for our fans. Lets hope this continues... Thanks for your feedback and do come and see us. Barry Edited June 8, 2017 by barrybishop
East End Fan
Most of us can only guess at attendance figures unless we actually count the people ( which I have done a couple of times). It is a fact that some tracks do not get the numbers they deserve and I suspect that IOW is one of them..I hope I'm wrong but Barry's comments seem to bear that out. I hope the holiday season brings them a big swelling in their numbers.

I hope the holiday season brings them a big swelling in their numbers. Every club would like more fans..... we built from a fan base of around 80 - 100 so the fact that we now have 50 season ticket holders, and around 150 - 200 additional fans is the right start. Every week we analyse and inspect our results. But let us be clear, we have to break even and must continue to grow in order for Martin and I to continue doing it. The league this year hasn't been too kind to us and we hope for an upturn in credibility, teamwork and unity for our league. Thanks again for the feedback See you trackside. cityrebel
Barry, you performed a minor miracle in bringing speedway back to the island. I thought it was gone forever at the end of 2013.
Popular Post barrybishop
Just to let everyone know that Ann did come to Speedway on Tuesday and had a wonderful time with our team and met some great new friends both from the Island and Birmingham. The great news is that she is hooked again on the sport and will be a regular at the Warriors from now. A win, win. I want to say I have been amazed at people’s response to this. For me, I did it because I hate the thought of anyone listening to speedway through an open window on race night.... in all honesty it brought back memories of when I was young and played up and my parents punished me by not allowing me to speedway - it was torture But to have fans contact me to pay her entry and other things, was amazing. Perhaps, if we concentrate on the great things about our sport from our fans, our lords and masters, our riders, our officials, our sponsors and speedway as a whole, we will for sure be in a better place. I have learnt that being positive and believing in what you do is a very powerful thing, for sure we all get frustrated - and we have had a lot of frustration this year, but I truly believe in what we do. I truly believe in our staff. I am truly thankful for all our sponsors. I am truly thankful for everyone who steps through our gate because they also believe and share our vision. This is why I believe in the Warriors and the Warrior Way. I am not ashamed to tell you all that it is so hard at times, it eats money like no one can believe, even at our level, when a rain off during a meeting wipes out a substantial amount of sponsorship because of all the costs associated with it... and I know we have more due to being on an Island (about 1k in ferry costs) but it will hurt any club. But the upside are times like on Tuesday with Ann, the speedway school, last heat deciders, fans faces, kids laughing, the Warrior Way affecting kid’s lives for the better, community, unity, vision and belief... now all we need to do is grow it, grow the belief, grow the vision and things will improve, crowd power is massive.... a good time creates an even better time the week after as they tell their friends.... and the cycle continues. Finally, clubs are beginning to follow some of our ideas, and some are even being creative themselves, which is just great news. Enjoy your speedway wherever you go, try to big up the good stuff and be constructive where it needs it.... we listen, we try to influence others, and if you can come to the Island do try to come, we appreciate travellers because we do it each week too, but I will guarantee you a great time. Come grab me I am always in yellow and blue. See you trackside. Barry

Thanks for the feedback and this is troubling to hear because we are in every holiday magazine, the Beacon, the county press, we have weekly advertising on the radio, we have been on Solent TV, our website, social media, we do every show on the island we can and we have banners at most tourist attractions and caravan sites. But as you say there is more we can do and we will keep doing as much as we can. Thanks for the feedback and if your friend comes again, invite him as my guest for him missing us first time. See you trackside. Edited June 18, 2017 by barrybishop
