Guest
This is an interesting but not complete Wikipedia list of closed British speedway clubs/teams. An outstanding example is that the much-famed pioneer club Crystal Palace IS NOT listed. There are probably others - but for all that, the list is an interesting touch of nostalgia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defunct_motorcycle_speedway_teams_in_the_United_Kingdom ::::: I would point out that more specific details in regard to the clubs detailed can be found by clicking on the highlighted LINKS shown for them. Robbie B
There's a small page about Crystal Palace on wikipedia, but like you I'm surprised of their omission. Because of this I added to that list on wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Palace_Glaziers Edited June 4, 2017 by Robbie B
Guest
There's a small page about Crystal Palace on wikipedia, but like you I'm surprised of their omission. Because of this I added to that list on wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Palace_Glaziers Well done Robbie B, but may I point out that the last speedway meeting at Crystal Palace was on Sunday, May 13, 1940. After the team moved to New Cross for the 1934 season, there were open meetings staged at various times in subsequent years, while in 1939 the team were briefly members of the National League Division Two. For all that, it's good see to see an important update in regard to the club on Wikipedia - and again, well done Robbie B for your efforts in updating the club's status. Robbie B
I will update this now. One thing I did note was the dates didn't include 1928 when venues operated only on open licences.

I agree with your comment Robbie B. Maybe the reason for 1928 not being included is because, as the Wikipedia source indicates, it is for TEAMS which would have been 1929 when league/team racing started. norbold
I believe there is an excellent book all about the history of Crystal Palace speedway, which can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crystal-Palace-Speedway-History-Glaziers-ebook/dp/B009BCWUY2/ref=la_B001KIKM18_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1496578952&sr=1-
