Somerset V Belle Vue 2/6/17

Recommended Posts

Agreed, he comes across as a rider who hates to lose to me and that can't be a bad thing. Unfortunately too many speedway fans seem to get too much pleasure from sticking the boot into riders or teams when things don't go there way.

He might not of been overly happy about the situation, but it didn't take him long to give up. Most other riders (Sedgmen apart) gave it a real go and should be applauded. Steve Worrall for the Aces leaves with the most credit, he was brilliant, really got stuck in and very fast.

I really like Craig Cook and always look forward to his visits at the OTA but last one was one to forget for him.

Thing is though back in the day Cook would have been classed as a character which we desperately need ,but now if he does anything like this he's called a k@ob. What do we want characters or robots

No....back in the day, they were still classed as 'knobs' and got the same abuse....we just remember them through rose tinted glasses now.

Cook is a fine rider, especially around the Oak Tree...however...regardless of how wound up you are, and 'angry' or 'disappointed'...ripping a telephone off the wall in a strop makes you a knob in my book. In the same class as a teenager who smashes up a bus shelter...because he's 'angry or disappointed'. No class...

Perhaps he should learn to ride in damp conditions like the majority of the other riders...although damp, the track was raceable, not just rideable. The times were fast. The only thing that stopped closer racing was riders getting filled in.

Was a joy to watch this meeting. Showed what can be done on a well prepared track with a bit of drizzle.

Shout out to Cameron Heeps too....his style especially when in the 2nd and 4th bends, hanging off the bike reminds me so much of Kelly Moran. A joy to watch someone with a bit of character in his riding style.

That's the type of 'Character' I prefer ;-)

Statman says on the updates that he was filled in for one of those races?

Everyone got 'filled in' unless you were out front....they still kept racing though.

Can someone tell Cookie there is a reverse charge call waiting for him on the Somerset Rebels Pit phone please ! Apparently it's a caller offering anger management therapy !!! Oh and if he takes up the offer he will get a personality absolutely free of charge !!!

Thing is Cook means it. In the past it was just part of the show. There's a difference - ones a character, the others a kn@b.

Cook wasn't too keen on the track at Workington last Saturday either.

I've bragged to aces fans how good the Somerset track is, twice I have took down new ppl and twice racing was naff. 😂😂 yesterday there was a good reason mind you.

Well done Somerset on wanting the win more than us. Some of our riders looked defeated before tapes went up. If you wanna ride for belle vue then us fans demand you have heart and give it your all what ever the conditions. Well done fricke, stevie, bjerre, smith, zak.

Sedgman was pathetic, diddnt like the conditions. Wouldn't leave the inside line so when he did gate he was easily passed.

Cook had a good first 2 races and looked really on it but missed the gate in his first, Got filled in and sulked the whole race, well 2 laps anyway. He then rode the outside line slowly looking at ref and going into the pits. Right on the racing line where lawson and wright nesrly collected him. He then smashed the phone and rode his last race at half speed. He was rightly fined for his actions. So as a belle vue fan. And craig being my favourite rider i was pissed of with hsi performance and moaning. But as others have said we need more sulky ppl like cook and Pedersen.

All our boys wanted was a 30 min delay to work on track and give it chance to stop raining. But the ref wanted to rush it through. And not just till heat 10 but heat 15. So fair play for giving us fans our monies worth in a sense.

Do we need team changes???? I'd say we do, watch this space........

Well done to the Rebels. Don't they have rain in Manchester then??!!

Just reading the BV column in this week's SS where Cookie is bragging about the Aces having the 'best top 5 in the league'.

'Other than the home slip-up against Somerset, we have been strong!!' 'Anyone who thinks different can take it up with me'!

I guess Garry and Debbie would happily discuss it with him if they had a phone to call him on?! hee hee.

I'm happy with last night. Six Aces turned up and six came away safe. That's rule number one in my book and how they go about achieving that is down to them.

Even with this result we're still ahead of our points target, if you win all your home matches and pick up a point away you finish on 56 and you qualify.

Working on that we should be on 16 so as I say above target.

I can't begrudge the rebels their win after the start they have endured and just hope they maintain this focus going forward.

Craig needs to have a word with himself though. He seems to think everywhere should be like the NSS where come rain or shine you can strut your stuff at full welly. He's kidding himself, these tracks up and down the country need to be ridden and complaining about inadequacies in the racing surface is pointless (literally) and can have an adverse effect on the whole team vibe. Suck it up I say as it's not the first and won't be the last track he's not satisfied with.

For anyone that wasn't there...there was absolutely nothing wrong with the track last night. It was damp...not wet. There were no puddles, it wasn't slick or slippery...in fact it was really grippy. Riders were charging into the bends, no one fell, riders made passes on the outside, there was more than one riding line. Even the times were fast.

The only difference to a 'dry' meeting, was that the shale that came up off the track, stuck, as it was damp and not bone dry dust. This made getting filled in more of a possibility. Hence you come prepared and have tear offs or mud visor roll strips.

Can't believe Mark Lemmon in the after night interviews, said that he felt disappointed in the Riders being asked to ride by the ref as it put their safety in jeopardy.

Seriously?

It seems some good riders need perfectly dry conditions to race. The Great riders can ride in all conditions.

The trouble with Cookie is if it doesn't go his way he sulks, he isn't interested if the track doesn't suit him. He blames everything but himself, the track conditions, the lighting, the wind !!! It's a shame because I rate him and when he's in the groove watch him fly !!! He's an exiting rider and he needs to set an example to younger riders to deal with the hand he's dealt. COME ON COOKIE ! MAN UP !!! Don't resort to spoilt brat behaviour !!!

He's becoming the British version of kevin Doyle at Swindon ;-)

Use a tear off then.

You'd imagine he did, they aren't always effective enough. Anyway this had gone way past the point I was trying to make, which is that you would always want somebody who hates losing over someone who doesn't really care. I accept that the line between passion and knobbery .ca. be a thin one.

I feel for the Belle Vue fans who made the long trip down.

As Mark Lemon said...it was the same for all the riders, it was just that some handled it better than others.

I'd seriously question Cooks attitude last night. He, imo, let Belle Vue down badly. He has all the ability, can ride the Oak tree fast and safely He even won heat 6 in a fast time in the worst of the conditions. To retire the way he did in his next two heats, considering Belle Vue were only 4 points behind in heat 12 was shocking in anyone's book.

He reminds me of a player in the Footy team I support...seen as the most naturally gifted and a bit of a 'maverick'. On HIS day, he's unplayable. But when it doesn't suit him, or things aren't going his way, he sulks, doesn't work for the team, and blames everyone else, bar himself.

You can't carry riders or players like that in your team.

If Cook had 'manned up'...Belle Vue could easily have taken a point last night. If Bewley had been there...maybe even more.

Sounds like the weather spoilt this a bit?

Some grumbling about Sedgemen but we haven't got any money to go and get a replacement with anyway, besides he can't be far off the average he had last season at Swindon, (he has maybe increased it a bit?) perhaps some fans don't understand the way the averages worked for team building this season?

I expected more from Wajtknecht but with Somerset's reserves in such good form I doubt Bewley would have made a big difference and it was always going to be tough for Smith.

The wet conditions didn't seem to suit Cook who scored nearly 3x what he scored last night when guesting for kl, that would have made all the difference.

I'm not sure we would change our team even if we had any money. The fact we haven't been the whipping boys (so far at least) must be seen as a bonus when you take into account the financial issues we had to overcome (cheers buster) just to get on track this season.

I still think we'll beat Poole next week, lol!

Ah bless bit of rain and your boys can't hack thought Cookie was mean't to be tough and handle anything. Can't blame Buster for all your financial issues.

As for Sedgeman he is the average he is because that is his level he isn't going to improve much, he has never replicated his form in Australia to here.

What are the chances of Tungate getting into the Aces line up

No idea what his average is ? , i like Sedgman but any more performances like that surely his place must be under threat

I think he would fit as a straight swap for Sedgeman when the new averages come out.
