Somerset V Belle Vue 2/6/17

Recommended Posts

Our problem is going to be the difference in the scores of the reserves. I think our 1-5 will score more than their opposite numbers but overall could be a close match.

Congratulations to Somerset. It looks as if I was right, their reserves outscored ours 18-3 although I was wrong about it being close overall. I thought the difference in the reserve scores might have been about 10, not 15.

What a pleasant surprise to get a full speedway meeting on tonight. 20 minutes up the road from the track we had 3 hours of constant drizzle before 7 o'clock - and was great to see racing continue beyond heat 10 too! Very enjoyable meeting too even with the constant rain during the match, just goes to show it can be done in rain.... well, everybody can except Craig Cook!

God knows what the referee was playing at. Made some right howlers throughout. It amazes me how a referee at the highest level can't tell whose who out on track. Made the error of mistaking Heeps for Kerr in heat 8, not once but about 5 times after checking with the pits too. What was more ridiculous was that the referee thought it was Kerr on track, then the riders would of been off the wrong gate and wrong helmet colours... yet he let it go! It seems that one got sorted in the end as the scores read out at the end were then correct - but he missed that Smith replaced Wajchtnecht later in the meeting and scored a point too. Things like this shouldn't happen as it effects averages and all sorts but hey ho.

For the Rebels, this has to be the best that Jake Allen has ever ridden our place. He revelled in tricky track conditions much like Charles Wright who was also superb. Big shout out to Richard Lawson too, another solid outing and already proving to be a big hit at the Oak Tree. Josh had a big off night but more than covered by the rest of the team.

For the Aces Bjerre and Worrall impressed.... Sedgmen and Cook really didn't. Is Sedgmen always this bad? He should be hanging his head in shame. He might not like the rain but a shocking showing. Once the rain came down Cook wasn't interested once he missed the gate. Hopefully got fined for his antics when well beat by Lawson and Wright and he practically parked up on the outside of turn 4, just moving out of the way before Lawson came round to lap him. The reserves were never really in it either, but more experienced riders like Sedgmen and Cook let the Aces down - especially Cook who normally flies here.

Sidecars next week hmmmm.... think I'll give that one a miss!

A good win tonight. I'm with you Najjer heat 8 was a complete joke, even the crowd were shouting to the ref but Rod insisted it was Heaps not Kerr. Counted five of them in the box and not one realised.

Jake and Charles stood out for me on what was a tricky track at times. Cook lost interest and threw his toys out the pram, hope Debbie makes him pay to put the phone back on the wall.

Don't know about getting fined Cook should have been thrown out of the meeting it was down right dangerous

Reminded me of an instance a good few years back against Stoke. Glenn Cunningham had fallen on bend 4 and no red lights came on and he was left stranded on the track and got taken out by Ben Barker when they came back around again. Difference was Cunningham was stranded after falling, Cook was just being an absolute tool.

What's the ruling regarding riders finishing a race, but with the wrong helmet colours on? Sure that happened tonight as well with Jake Allen getting mixed up with his partner. Was expecting a Belle Vue complaint.

Good win for Somerset. On a surprisingly fast track considering the constant drizzle.

Probably the least amount of passing I've seen this season, and the most strung out.

Made me chuckle when they announced the Pits phone had been 'accidently' ripped out...lol

Who got their kevlars in a twist with the ref then?

The correct helmet colours were worn during heat 8 - it was the referee who made the mistake during all of that saga.

And with regards the phone - I'm going to assume Cook.

Despite the persistent rain which continued pretty much right through the meeting, this was an entertaining meeting. Not the usual pass and re pass stuff which is dished up every week, but nevertheless, the very decent crowd that turned up had plenty to shout about.

Good to see the crowd impeccably observe a minutes silence before the meeting started to remember those that lost their lives in the tragic incident in Manchester last week.

The Rebels clearly wanted this more than the Aces. Wright and Allen were feircely competitive throughout, steaming into the bends as if the track was perfect. Actually it's a good job that Cook didn't want to know once he missed the gate and got filled in, because he looked mighty quick. Bjerre showed his true class tonight. The former OTA track record holder showed his liking for the Somerset track with a couple of fine wins. The current OTA track record on the other hand was simply boorish (more of him later)

The new look Rebels team look an exciting side now, and as showed tonight, even with 6 riders and an off form Graczjonek, they are still able to deliver the goods.

In Richard Lawson, the Rebels have signed a real fans favourite. With his mullet hairstyle and his lightening starts, he has quiclkly become a popular member of the team.

Kerr and Heeps have added some solidarity to the middle order, and the feel good factor is returning.

Back to Craig Cook. On several, occasions at the OTA in the recent past showed he is always liable to a temper tantrum. A couple of years ago he crashed on the first bend and gesticulated angrily in the referee's direction after he was excluded for causing the stoppage. Last season he complained bitterly that it was too windy, yet all the other riders got stuck in, and this time it was too wet. After missing the start of heat 9, he tried hard to make gains on the riders in front before ripping his goggles off and once again glaring at the referee's box. As mentioned by other's he simply trundled around and was mid track as the Rebels riders entered the last two bends, having no consideration for the safety of anyone, including his idiotic self. Upon his return to the pits, He was so wound up he literally tore the pits phone off of the wall before throwing it to the floor. I am informed, that as it crashed to the floor it narrowly missed Debbie Hancock. Referee Graham Reeve rightly fining Cook for his childish behaviour.

The rain continued, but it didn't seem to deter the hardy Somerset folk, and indeed a spattering of Aces fans (one I saw wearing a pair of shorts)

Ironically, the meeting finished in bright sunshine, engulfing the back straight fans, with a huge colourful rainbow greeting another 3 precious points!

Thing is though back in the day Cook would have been classed as a character which we desperately need ,but now if he does anything like this he's called a k@ob. What do we want characters or robots

Agreed, he comes across as a rider who hates to lose to me and that can't be a bad thing. Unfortunately too many speedway fans seem to get too much pleasure from sticking the boot into riders or teams when things don't go there way.

Everybody loves a pantomime villain and a character - but what's charactistic about giving up in your last 2 races with 2 laps to go and then in heat 13 with 3 laps to go? I'd of been livid if I was a Belle Vue fan and travelled from Manchester to watch that display from him. He was the reason they didn't get a point.

Have to say I was pretty proud of us yesterday. No Pat and Richard and Charles carrying injuries it didn't look good against one of the fancied teams this year. Enter Jake Allen from reserve, apart from Klindt the false reserve at Poole, has there been a better performance from a no 6 so far. Well done mate. I was on the edge of my seat following on the updates, sometimes hardly being able to look lol. Really wished I lived closer, missing it even more now we are in the top tier. Great to hear that even though we are not winning regularly , the racing is still top drawer and well supported. It's also nice to hear visiting fans complementing the action. With due respect to the replaced riders it looks like Cam, Lewis and particularly Richard have slid in nicely. Nice piece Richard did in the SS the other week as well. Can't see us in the playoffs but we will ruffle some feathers COYR.
