Scunthorpe V Peterborough Koc

Recommended Posts

Lets face it, your going to read the following in the next day or so:

Godfrey - Panthers bottled it, and we aren't happy, when we run the meeting again, it will have an extra bit of niggle...

Ged - Track was bad, and we didn't feel it was safe, and didn't want to be forced to ride with the injuries we've had this season.

Scunny fans - Panthers riders are assholes and bottled it

Panthers fans - right decision, and glad to come back another day!

Lets see what dates Godfrey comes up with, bet he will try for when we have riders missing....

Simple solution if date offered you have riders missing is refuse dimples.

I was there, & the track was never going to be fit to ride. Godfrey was desperate to get the meeting back on, but made a bad decision keeping us all in the stadium for that length of time, in my opinion. Once again, the paying customer is the last person on a greedy promoters mind. The fact the woman on the gate didn't know who we had to email for a refund speaks volumes for the way we are treated. We were very lucky that the rain came, as we looked like we were heading for a heavy defeat.

That's harsh. A rain off with everyone at the track costs a promoter thousands so its little wonder Scunthorpe tried very hard to get the racing back on. You could argue that they did that at least partly so that paying customers wouldn't lose out and if they hadn't tried remedial work there would have been criticism for that, too. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Its a difficult call when its raining at or soon after start time when there is a possibility of getting the meeting on or back on. Sheffield delayed the other week when I was there and I really didn't have an issue with it.

HT, was you at the meeting, because there was no chance the track was going to be rideable. Godfrey wouldn't have made all that effort if Scunthorpe had been behind at the time the rain came. I want to be entertained when I go to speedway, & if we win it's a bonus. That's why I go to Scunthorpe every time Peterborough are riding there. Yesterday left a sour taste in my mouth, & I am questioning if I want to part with any more money to line his pockets.

The riders agreed to look at the track after some work had been done, surely they could or would of said dont bother rob..you cant blame him for the rain lasting longer than predicted, you could argue the fact if boro were 8 in front would they so keen on a rain off? but as it turned out both teams didnt fancy it.

If they had resumed whose to say that the Panthers wouldn't of turned it around on a track that could of rode differently to the original.

To many riders get badly injured riding perfectly ridable tracks and maybe in this case it was in everyones interest to call it a day, im sure someone like Lewis Kerr would of been apprehensive of the conditions .

It wasn't the paying publics best scenario but at least it was better than a complete farce and with the riders staying safe and theres always another day for speedway

What these photos show is NOT the state of the track while racing but the state of the track DURING remedial work. The 1st photo shows the top surface being bladed to the outside & the 2nd all the build up. Down the back straight this was then picked up by a JCB, removed and a fresh top layer of shale graded in.

As an official photographer for tracks, did you not take any photos of the track before the meeting had started & after all the remedial work had been done, or have you just posted the worst!.

We have, in the past, got meetings on, & finished after worse conditions than yesterday so that is why they tried to give it a go.

A few of us spoke to Peter Clarke, the referee, after & he said while the track looked good, in fact it was still greasy on the inside & grippy on the outside. There was, also, the risk of the track breaking up. The safety concern was that if a rider had spun & a following had been filled in & could not see properly, there could have been an accident, potentially a bad one.

As regards the email for refunds, see our website as it is Gail Godfrey.

yep, got shots before, but what people were arguing about on here was the track when decisions were being made whether to run or not.

I'm always happy to go to Scunthorpe and as I mentioned to the clerk of the course yesterday, I've always thought the drainage there has been spot on, but I wondered whether the 8 hours of racing on Saturday had blocked the drains and not had a chance to clear naturally, and it was also mentioned by people how the pump didn't seem to be making a difference, although I could see the water still running back from bend 4 round to bend 3.

I could see from the start that the track was going to be tricky and was going to be one that was vital for gating early on, as turn 1 was very wet and riders missing the start would get filled in easily, but knew it would be good after a few races.

What most of the riders seemed concerned about was fresh topping being mixed in with the sludge that was already there, and I think that was what made their decision

yeh looks nice like that, but then postcards make a lot of towns look nice, the truth is whats under the surface, in this case slop with shale from a pile that had also been rained on put on top. maybe if the track hadn't been watered so heavily before the meeting the work may have had a chance.
