Scunthorpe Scorpions V Ipswich Witches ( S G B Championship) - Sunday, May 21st (5.30pm)

Fridays good for me!!!!! But to be honest scunny need an out and out number 1.

Supporters need to get off Josh Auty's back and support the lad as he's going through a bad time, being dropped by Leicester stinks after he rode his ass off last year for little reward.

Let's get behind the riders I say,,,,,, end of excuses!!!

I think every Scunny supporter including me has been saying for the past 2 seasons that Scunny desperately need a number 1 as heats 13 and 15 are stopping Scunny from winning, no disrespect to Ipswich and congratulations on winning but after the 2 big hitters in King and Schlein the rest of the team should have been no trouble for Scunny

A brutal comment but scunny need more, and a tad better luck.

Certainly a fine line between success and failure with Scunny now losing 3 of their home matches by 44-46, although once again I won't be able to make the bank holiday meeting against Newcastle it will be interesting to see if they can take advantage of Scunny's bad luck recently and record I believe there first win at the EWR.

Must say I was shocked at how small the attendance was

My estimate would be around 300 and 50/60 were Witches fans

Scorpions fans were very quiet as well - even when winning

Sadly I think the scunny track is no where near how good it used to be and found today's meeting boring. I'm seeing more and more races that are strung out and not counting but I would guess on 1/2 the usual passes.

Looking at my updates, only three races were from the gate and I thought there was some excellent racing, with both King and Howarth going from third to first. I don't think the quality has deteriorated at all.

If you found it boring, try Sheffield instead.

Unfortunately afternoon meetings never supply as much good racing as we had on the Friday night ones, it also seems to take away any home advantage we used to have, in the past Scunny rarely win on sundays or bank holiday mondays.

Friday's were better but I fully understand Rob Godfrey's decision to move to Sunday.

Having said that, the best meeting I saw anywhere last season was Scunthorpe v Edinburgh and that was a 3.00pm start.

About 400 I thought but that's about par and reflects Scunthorpe's poor home form.

I shudder to think how many would be there if the racing were rubbish.

Problem is he is simply not cutting it and doesn't look like beating opposition heat leaders.

That's what he's there for.

In truth, I thought Scunthorpe should have won. Had they not thrown away points on tapes exclusions and engine failures they probably would have.

PS Rob was good in the box yesterday but he's better on the centre green. If you need a box man, try and recruit Belle Vue's Neil Drummond because he's one of the best there is.

A few must have snuck in when I was getting my pre match coffee HT - and left whilst I was still ringing my cowbell in celebration 😊

Such a shame that such a good product is not seen by more supporters.

I enjoyed Robs comments from the box too. Very dry and quite funny.

Was nice to read on updates of a last heat decider actually going our way for a change. Mind you I was hoping for a 4pt to help the league campaign.

To actually get the win though when a couple of our top 5 were a tad off the boil was also quite pleasing.

A few vital points earned by Nathan Greaves and the job was done, Just!

The Witches have struggled a bit on the road so far so a win is always welcome.

If I was Scunthorpe, its pretty simple who you get, Kurtz of the Brady variety.

He is not riding in Poland or Denmark. He could do with some extra rides and 7.65 average will be up there with Lambert and Cook in that league and is a better rider than King or Schlein just look at the Premiership. Kerr is looking like the only solid rider and Palm Toft.

But it's not simple as it's a numbers game. If Brady's schedule would fit it would certainly help Poole, would it not. Alluding to the fact Auty, Douglas & Wilko have all dropped their averages, how would he fit without dropping 2 riders.

It could, also, come down to when the averages change in the Premiership as, yes, he is at 7.65 but currently riding at 8.8. Is there a conversion from Premiership to Championship that we don't know of, yet!

The ones who "run" the sport (so nearly added an "i" in the middle of that word!!) wouldn't tell you if there was!!

No because he is on a championship average. So you will be all right.

I hate Auty, he is a rider who has never live up to the potential which he had. I just don't think he is very good and came with a high average for not much of a rider.

2 riders I would get if the fit is Kurtz and Adam Ellis. Both young and will give you everything. Kurtz is looking like the wonder Kid he is meant to be. I mean you get 14 points in u21 and its a dropped point to Drabik.

Kurtz is a future GP rider. Probs in 2 years time and you might as well get him now before he gets too good.

Ellis is having a bad year. Will be back at Poole next year I imagine so also get him.

As a club we are like Chelsea we hoard talent and just see what happens but for Scunthorpe sake you need them now. And you need to stop messing around with bang average riders. Palm toft and Kerr are decent. Rest are useless.

I have attended the last the last three Scunthorpe v Peterborough meetings and seriously doubt any of them got a crowd in excess of 300.

HT we will have to agree to disagree.

"Looking at my updates, only three races were from the gate and I thought there was some excellent racing, with both King and Howarth going from third to first. I don't think the quality has deteriorated at all.

The product is not as good as it used to be in my opinion. I have a round trip of approx 168 miles and watched some very good racing in the past. This year has been poor in my opinion. Just out of interest how many heats were decided before turn three on the first lap?

As for crowd sizes yes they are getting worse and I fear the worst as without new blood in the team Scunny look like the wooden spoon team.

I've been to Sheffield and your right,,,, it's boring.

I used to meet with around 10 sheffield supporters at scunny but they have stopped coming to meetings now.

So what do we do then applaud a rider who is struggling at the back which is the American way or tell the truth and to get your finger out your a**e and as it's your only team get out there and score points and put yourself back in the shop window, the Leicester promotion must be glad they got rid of Auty in this form when they did and if this all sounds a bit harsh the only person who can change this around is Josh Auty himself. BCD, since you're on here, please could you advise when the Peterborough v Scunthorpe KOC fixture will take place. I realise you've probably known since Tuesday. Ta!

All the best

Rob

Nothing decided yet, your bosses declined the last date offered.

If that's the case then obviously there is no money in the kitty for a number 1 so maybe a few tweaks to the team is required, below is my revised team which won't make every Scunny fan happy

1 Michael Palm Toft

2 Stefan Nielsen when fit again

3 Lewis Kerr

4 Ryan Douglas the 2016 one

5 Dimitri Berge fast gater and seems to love Scunny track or

Ostergaard if Peterborough are offloading

6 Tero Aarnio

7 Josh Bailey
